Trump Ponders How to Stop Impeachment Probe, ‘Maybe Legally Through the Courts’

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is lashing out at House Democrats amid an impeachment investigation and a whistleblower complaint over his efforts to pressure Ukraine to investigate Democratic rival Joe Biden. Speaking to reporters Thursday after returning to Washington from meetings at the U.N. General Assembly, Trump says of the probes, “There should be a way of stopping it, maybe legally through the courts.”

Trump Pushes Attorney General Barr Into Political Fray Again

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has pushed the nation’s top law enforcement officer into a political fray again. The Republican president offered Ukraine’s president the help of Attorney General William Barr in investigating his Democratic political rival Joe Biden, partly the basis for a whistleblower complaint. Barr is one of Trump’s greatest defenders but has sought to distance himself from Trump’s conversations with the Ukrainian president.

Census: US Inequality Grew, Including in Heartland States

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Income inequality is growing in the United States. Census Bureau figures show the gap between the haves and the have-nots grew last year to its highest level in more than 50 years of tracking. University of Florida economist Hector Sandoval says even though household income increased, it has been distributed unevenly, with the wealthiest helped possibly by a tax cut passed by Congress in 2017.

Man Accused of Providing Lethel Drugs at After-Party in Pittsburgh Indicted on Numerous Charges

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A man accused of providing a white powdery substance tainted with fentanyl at an after-party in Pittsburgh last weekend, leading to the death of three men, has been indicted on numerous charges. A federal grand jury on Wednesday returned a seven-count indictment against Peter Rene Sanchez Montalvo. Authorities have said all of the victims who overdosed had been at the same bar Saturday night. They later attended a party where Montalvo allegedly passed around what victims thought was cocaine.

State Senate Moves Along Bill to Raise Minimum Age in PA to Purchase Tobacco

The state Senate is moving along legislation that would raise the minimum age in Pennsylvania to purchase tobacco and vaping products to 21. Approved by a 43-to-six margin, the bill is now on its way to the House for consideration. If signed into law as currently written, the legislation would also create new penalties for tobacco use in schools and allow schools to upgrade their on-grounds tobacco use policies.
