Pittsburgh City Officials Preparing for Visit by President Trump on Wednesday

PITTSBURGH (AP) — President Donald Trump’s visit to Pittsburgh on Wednesday will close roads and a dozen schools. Police Chief Scott Schubert is advising residents and employees to leave early, work from home if they can and expect heavier than normal traffic. The president on Wednesday will speak at an annual natural gas industry conference. Road closures will begin at midnight Tuesday and continue throughout the day Wednesday. Streets will reopen on a staggered basis after Trump leaves.

Surprises for Shut-Ins..can you help?

SURPRISES FOR SHUT-INS

The 33rd annual Surprises for Shut-ins is a Christmas program of the Beaver County Office on Aging.

Gifts will be delivered in December 2019 to sickly and lonely shut-ins age 60 and over who live in the community and are identified by the Beaver County Office on Aging as needing some special attention during the Christmas season.

Through December 2, 2019, the Office on Aging asks participants of senior centers, community service, civic and church groups as well as the public to donate new gifts or cash donations to cover the cost of gift wrap and supplies. If writing a check, make it payable to Angela Gentile, and a receipt will be issued.

Wrapped gifts will be appreciated, but it is not absolutely necessary to wrap them. If you wrap the gift, please put a post it note or a gift tag on the item stating what is inside. No bows, please. They get crushed in the gift bags.

Items can be brought to:

  • Beaver County Office on Aging, 1020 8th Ave., Beaver Falls, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays except holidays

  • Center at the Mall, located in the corridor next to Hallmark, Monday, 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Beaver Falls Lions Club Student’s of the Month for October

Allyson Greco – Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heather and Shad Greco of Beaver Falls. She is a four year letter winner in Varsity Bowling and Varsity Volleyball where she serves as Captain. Allyson is a three year member of the National Honor Society and serves as Secretary. She is also a three year High Honor Roll student and Member of the Academic Excellence League. Allyson has volunteered at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and made cookies for Chippewa Twp. Police and Fire Departments. She has participated in the Walk to end Alzheimer’s and the Bowling Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Association at Sim’s Lanes. During this past summer, Allyson worked at Big Beaver Falls Area School District as part of their summer grounds crew. After graduation, Allyson plans to attend, Youngstown State University.

Christopher Bannon – Son of Faith Bannon of New Galilee. He is a high honor roll student. Christopher is active in the district musicals, GATE program, Leo Club, Student Government, and Serves as Treasure of the National Honor Society. He has also been a member of the Academic Excellence League for the past two years. Christopher spends his free time volunteering at local church soup kitchens. He also helped out at the Beaver Falls Lions Club Easter Bunny Breakfast and Bingo, along with the Jeff Novak Benefit Dinner. After graduating from Beaver Falls in June, Christopher plans to attend Penn State Beaver.

(Beaver Falls, Pa.) Beaver County Sherriff Tony Guy will join Frank Sparks on Teleforum Tuesday October 21, 2019 at 10:10 a.m. to talk about guns.

With a changing society more and more people are thinking about purchasing a gun for personal protection. Sherriff Guy will be discussing the do’s and don’t’s of purchasing and legally possessing a firearm. Sherriff Guy will also take you through the process of applying for a carry permit and what eaxctly that means to have one.
