Trump Whistleblower Wants to Meet With Lawmakers

The whistleblower behind the Ukraine complaint wants to meet with lawmakers, according to their counsel. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., tweeted Tuesday that his committee was in touch with the whistleblower’s counsel and looking forward to “testimony as soon as this week.” The whistleblower filed a complaint about his phone call with Ukraine’s leader, but Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire refused to comply with a deadline to hand over the complaint to Congress even though it had been deemed “credible and urgent” by the intelligence community inspector general.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House account of a phone call this summer shows President Donald Trump asking the new president of Ukraine to investigate Democratic foe Joe Biden and his son. Hunter Biden was on the board of a Ukrainian gas company at the time his father was vice president. Trump says he offered Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy nothing as incentive.

Police: Mom Left Young Kids Alone to Go Help Friend in Fight

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh mom faces felony child endangerment charges after she allegedly left her two young children home alone so she could help a friend who was about to fight someone nearby. City police went to Mattie Sims’ home after a neighbor asked them to check on the children, ages 4 and 1. Authorities say they found deplorable conditions in Sims’ home, and she was drunk when she came home about 30 minutes later. The children appeared to be unharmed but were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Man Who Drove While High Sentenced for Deadly Head-On Crash

PLUM, Pa. (AP) — A driver who was under the influence of fentanyl and marijuana when he caused a head-on crash that killed two people is now headed to prison. Edward Cass III was sentenced Tuesday to serve seven to 14 years, followed by seven years’ probation. A judge had found the 27-year-old Saltsburg man guilty in July of two counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI in the August 2017 crash. Cass’ lawyer had argued for a lesser sentence, saying his client was remorseful and has been sober since the crash.
