Penguins place star center Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins placed center Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve Tuesday with an upper-body injury.

The move comes after the 39-year-old Malkin sat out a shootout loss to Dallas on Sunday. Malkin, in the final season of his contract with the Penguins, is off to one of the better starts of his 20-year career.

The Russian has eight goals and 21 assists in 26 games for surprising Pittsburgh, which began the season with modest expectations but is firmly in contention in the competitive Metropolitan Division.

The Penguins also placed forward Blake Lizotte on injured reserve with an upper-body injury. Lizotte has three goals and two assists in 27 games.

The club described Malkin and Lizotte as both week to week.

Pittsburgh recalled forwards Danton Heinen and Sam Poulin from their American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to fill out the roster ahead of Tuesday night’s visit by Anaheim, the start of a five-game homestand.

Pennsylvania Older Adults from 36 Counties Create Hundreds of Handmade Ornaments for the State Capitol Christmas Tree

(Harrisburg, PA) The Pennsylvania Department of Aging announced today that visitors to the State Capitol Main Rotunda in Harrisburg during the holiday season can check out hundreds of handmade ornaments hung on the Christmas tree that were created by older adults from across Pennsylvania. As part of an annual invitation from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, older adults from 93 Senior Community Centers in 36 Pennsylvania counties submitted ornaments for the Christmas tree, which will remain in the State Capitol Main Rotunda until January 8th, 2026. According to a release in Harrisburg today from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging, Senior Community Centers that submitted holiday ornaments include:

  • Allegheny County – AgeWell at the JCC, Caring Heights Community Care and Rehab, Mt. Washington Healthy Active Living Community Center, Sheraden Healthy Active Living Community Center
  • Beaver County – Circle of Friends Conway, Circle of Friends New Brighton

Allegheny Health Network Neuroscience Institute to Launch Dedicated Neuroscience Track within AlphaLab Health

(Pittsburgh, PA) According to a release in Pittsburgh today from Allegheny Health Network, the Allegheny Health Network Neuroscience Institute is launching a new, dedicated neuroscience track within AlphaLab Health, the nationally recognized accelerator jointly operated by Allegheny Health Network and Innovation Works. An anonymous donor made this expansion possible through a generous grant, which further solidifies the commitment that the AHN Neuroscience Institute has to drive innovation in critical health care areas. 2027 is when the new track will launch with its first class of companies.

Dr. Milo Mark Ujevich (1958-2025)

Dr. Milo Mark Ujevich, 67, of Hopewell, passed away surrounded by loved ones on December 3rd, 2025, after complications from a hard-fought battle with Type 1 Diabetes.

He was born on September 13th, 1958, the son of the late Milo and Nadine Ujevich. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Renee (Ceccarelli) Ujevich, five children and their spouses: Mark (Chelsey), Matt (Breanna), Carly (Kris), Michael (Maddie), and Casey (Brendon); as well as six grandchildren: Milo, Brendon, Chase, Brooke, Sophie, and Kai. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Tom Bellhy, along with many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Milo grew up in Center Township and remained deeply connected to his roots throughout his life. He earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Pittsburgh, his medical degree from George Washington University, and completed his residency at Mercy Hospital. He had a focus on emergency room medicine and radiology, he dedicated his career to serving patients in hospitals throughout the Pittsburgh area and helped countless patients through his decades of service.

While most will remember Dr. Milo for his dedication to medicine, his family will remember him for his endless devotion to providing them with a life filled with love and unforgettable memories.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 12th from 5-8 p.m. at the Anthony Mastrofrancesco Funeral Home Inc, 2026 McMinn Street, Aliquippa, who was in charge of his arrangements. A private service will be held and entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 2186 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa.

Dylon James Winfield (1992-2025)

Dylon James Winfield, 33, of Moon Township, passed away on December 7th, 2025. He was born in Pittsburgh on April 21st, 1992, the son of James Winfield and the late Michelle Flosnik. In addition to his father, he is survived by his stepmother, Kimberly Smith of Hopewell Township, his paternal grandparents, James & Mary Winfield, his aunt, Denise Staude and her husband Tom, his uncle, Jeff Norris and his wife, Bonnie Norris, as well as his cousins. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank & Susan Flosnik.

Dylon graduated from Moon High School in 2010 where he sang with the choir and performed in high school musicals. He was a self-published author under the name Winfield Winfield. The titles of his books include: Cult of the Eclipse, American Millennial, and his latest book, Perchance to Dream.

Friends are invited to a Memorial Gathering on Sunday, December 14th from 1 p.m. until the time of a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. at the Huntsman Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Moon Township, 1522 Coraopolis Heights Road, Coraopolis, who was in charge of his arrangements. Private interment will take place at a later date.

(Beaver Falls, PA) According to a release, Beaver Falls will have a Christmas Eve service for the community at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24th, 2025. It will be at the Falls Park on 7th Avenue and 13th Street and those that are attending the event are advised to dress for the weather and to bring their own beverage and chair. This event will also maybe have cookies for attendees to share.

(Pittsburgh, PA) Pitt’s college football team will travel to Annapolis, Maryland to take on East Carolina University to play in the Go Bowling Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. That game will start at 11 a.m. on December 27th, 2025 and the 8-4 Panthers will take on the 8-4 Pirates. ESPN will televise the game nationally.

First-degree murder charge dropped for Baden man apprehended for shooting and killing a man in Aliquippa

(Beaver County, PA) A first degree-murder charge was dropped yesterday at the Beaver County Courtroom for twenty-five-year-old Taevaughn Goodnight of Baden after he was apprehended for shooting and killing twenty-four-year-old Gevod Tyson in Aliquippa. Tyson died at Heritage Valley Sewickley on October 14th, 2025 after a dispute with Goodnight that night. Goodnight shot Tyson in his right thigh once with a firearm during a physical altercation with Tyson on Wade Street. Police said the two men were fighting over a custody dispute with a woman. Goodnight will be able to get out of jail on bond without the first-degree murder charge but his trial is currently set for sometime in May of 2026. Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible confirms that this is a case of the victim and defendant knowing each other and added that there is no threat to the community.

(Cincinnati, OH) December 4th, 2025, was an emotional day for former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier, who visited UC Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio that day, which marked eight years to the day since he suffered a spinal cord injury on December 4th, 2017, during an NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Shazier reunited with members of the multi-disciplinary care team who treated him at UC Medical Center during his visit, and he also spent time with current patients who are going through spinal cord injuries to offer, encouragement, insight and support drawing from his own journey of rehabilitation.

Shapiro Administration Kicks Off the Holiday Season at the 2025 Annual Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

(Harrisburg, PA) Yesterday, the holiday season kicked off with Governor Josh Shapiro, First Lady Lori Shapiro, Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis, and Department of General Services Secretary Reggie McNeil were among those attending the 2025 Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Pennsylvania Capitol in Harrisburg that day. The approximately 25-foot Douglas Fir that was in the Main Rotunda was grown by Crystal Spring Tree Farm in East Lehighton of Carbon County and was adorned with over 2,400 LED lights and 1,700 handmade ornaments created by both children from Pre K for PA and older adults from across Pennsylvania, which reflects the creativity and care of communities statewide. According to a release in Harrisburg yesterday from the office of Governor Shapiro, attendees experienced a celebration where craft, community and history came together that could stand the test of time as they were surrounded by the glow of the Capitol and scenes that were inspired by classic artistry of Christmas.
