Public Service Day on the “Best of Beaver County” with Jim Roddey presented by St. Barnabas

Jim Roddey former Allegheny County Executive is the host of “The Best of Beaver County”

(Beaver Falls, Pa.) The Best of Beaver County is easy to discover; it’s right on your radio!  Tune in this and every Thursday from 11 to 11:30 am  for “the Best of Beaver County”, on WBVP and WMBA presented by St. Barnabas. The show is hosted by Jim Roddey and is dedicated to shining light on the great things going on right here in your neighborhood, and the people that are making it happen.  The Theme this week was Public Service as Jim’s guests this week were Beaver County Treasurer Connie Javens and Beaver County Commissioners Chairman Dan Camp.

In the first segment Jim talked with Beaver County Treasurer Connie Javens. Javens has been the Treasurer for 28 years and is not seeking a new term thus she will bringing her career to an end later this year. Jim and Connie talked about her life and career. Javens  graduated from Monaca High School in 1955 and after graduation went to work in the office at Westinghouse. She also was learning to get her pilots license but never finished because she got married and started a family. Connie went on to highlight her career from Monaca School Board to becoming Treasurer. Connie told Jim of her many accomplishments and how she is going to miss dealing with the people of Beaver County upon her retirement.

In Segment two Jim welcomed in Beaver County Commissioners Chairman Dan Camp.  Jim asked Dan what he thought was the three key things for Beaver County to be a success and Camp answered that number one, we need to keep the youth here, number two, we must continue to educated and invest in education at a high level, and number 3, Good Government. The guys then started talking about infrastructure and how that is a key to the continued growth of Beaver County.

The talk then shifted to the new voting system in Beaver County and the return of paper ballots. Camp explained that the voter will fill out a paper ballot and then scan it upon leaving the polling place. Camp said this will save the county around 1 million dollars.  Dan told Jim that he feels this is an excellent way for checks and balances.

In the final segment of the interview Camp explained that the most challenging thing about being a commissioner is dealing with the personalities and managing the employees of Beaver County. He also said the most rewarding thing is his work at trying to bring jobs to Beaver County and assisting companies on getting grants to help employ more people.
