First Responder’s day on the “Best of Beaver County” with Jim Roddey presented by St. Barnabas Thursday February 28, 2019

Jim Roddey host of “The Best of Beaver County” on WBVP and WMBA

(Beaver Falls, Pa.) The Best of Beaver County is easy to discover; it’s right on your radio!  Tune in this and every Thursday from 11 to 11:30 am  for “the Best of Beaver County”, on WBVP and WMBA presented by St. Barnabas. The show is hosted by Jim Roddey and is dedicated to shining light on the great things going on right here in your neighborhood, and the people that are making it happen. Jim’s guests this week were Brighton Twp. Police Captain Pete Benedict and Brighton Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. Lieutenant, Mark Vandenbord.

 

Captain Benedict of the Brighton Twp. Police Department

Segment one Jim talked with Captain Benedict about how his career in law enforcement started at the age of 28 and how his career advanced to him being named as the first ever Captain of the Brighton Twp. Police Department. The guys then talked about Brighton Twp. and how the community is growing more and more each year. Benedict told Roddey that the Brighton Twp. Police department is  now in charge of security at Heritage Valley Beaver. Roddey finished up the interview thanking Captain Benedict for his service to the community.

In segment two Jim spoke with  Lieutenant Mark Vandenbord about the ever growing Brighton Twp. Vol. Fire Department. Mark talked about how fire fighting is a tradition in his family going back to his father and his grand father. The guys also discussed that for the last year Brighton Twp. has been employing part-time fire fighters to assist the volunteer fireman. Mark talked about the challenges of recruiting new volunteer fireman. He said that it’s tough cause you need over 200 initial hours of training just to become a volunteer fireman and that you have to attend continuing training to be able to properly serve the community and that people just don’t want to give up that kind of time in their busy lives.
