(New Brighton, Pa) The Jeannette Jayhawks traveled to New Brighton’s Oak Hill Field for a battle on the gridiron. The game had a lot of big plays on both sides but penalties hurt the Lions.
Following the Lions kick off, the Jayhawks tried running with little luck but were able to pick up some first downs through the air. The drive was stopped with an attempt at a 35 yard field goal.
The Lions ran the ball very well with Heath Lewis making some very tough yards then Carter Jackson hooked up with Mike Cleckley down to the 32. They battled down to the 2 yard line and turned it over on a fumbled ball.
Jeannette took over and Anthony Stuchell completed a pass to Destin Sanders who took the ball down to 11 yard line. With a third and two Jayce Powell took the wild cat snap and scored. The extra point was good.
The Lions next possession, Heath Lewis picked up some hard yards to the 45 then Carter Jackson hit Mike Cleckley inside the five for a first and goal. A penalty after the play took the lions back to the 20 yard line. Carter Jackson hit Joesph Kennedy on a nice slant down to the 2 and Heath Lewis ran into the endzone. New Brighton went for 2 with a wide out screen from Jackson to Cleckley for the 2 points. Lions 8 Jayhawks 7.
The Lions Joseph Kennedy interception and return was called back as the refs made a debatable roughing the passer call. The Jayhawks then took over and threw a touchdown ti end the half Jayhawks 14 Lions 8.
New Brighton moved the ball a little in the third quarter but it was the Jayhawks Stuchell to Powell to make it 21 to 8. Macalister Steele got wide open in the endzone touchdown Jeannette 21 New Brighton 8.
Heath Lewis takes the ball for the Lions 95 yards to make it 28 -14 and put a stamp on his 192 yards rushing.
Final score: Jeannette 28 New Brighton 14.
