Robert L. Longfellow (1937-2024)

Robert L. Longfellow, 86, of McCandless Township, formerly of Freedom, passed away on August 11, 2024 at St. John’s Specialty Care Center of Mars. Robert was born in Weirton, West Virginia on September 14, 1937. He was the son of the late Howard P. and Ethel G. (Doty) Longfellow. He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Jane Wright and one brother, Phillip G. Longfellow. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, his high school sweetheart, Carol Lee (Brown) Longfellow, two daughters and sons-in-law, Robbin L. and Donald Sawyer of Elmira, New York and Terri L. and Richard Fuller of Atlanta, Georgia, four grandchildren, Skye (Hank), Keely (Yan), Aidan and Carmen and four great-grandchildren.He was a retired Vice-President of Marketing and Sales with Chelsea Building Products of Oakmont and also retired from Dravo Corporation where he began his career and with his job traveled the world over, taking him to 39 countries. He was a 1956 graduate of Freedom High School and received his BS degree from the University of Pittsburgh where he played football. He received his Master’s Degree from Case Western University of Ohio. Robert was a member of the Ingomar United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh where he and his wife both sang in the choir and led a group named “Seekers” with his church. Robert’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the Ingomar United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Freedom. Arrangements are being handled by the William Murphy Funeral Home, Inc., 349 Adams Street, Rochester.
