He was born in Rochester on January 5th, 1947, a son of the late John and Grace (Muschweck) Mikita.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, James and Edna Phillips, as well as his aunts and uncles.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Mikita, his son, Ryan Mikita, his sisters, Diana McDonnell and Cheryl Gauvey, his “hunting buddy,” Jeff Miller, and his dog, Cali “Killer.”

John was a member of the New Brighton High School class of 1965. He later went on to serve his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the United State Marine Corp. He was a member of the Marion Hill Sportsmen Club, where he served on the board. He liked to hunt, fish, skeet shoot, trap & skeet and snow skiing. He loved animals especially his hunting dogs. He built homes for a living. He enjoyed traveling with his family on trips to places like Key Largo and Jackson Hole.

Friends will be received on Saturday, August 30th, from 12 noon until the time of a service at 4 p.m., in the J&J Spratt Funeral Home, Inc., 1612 3rd Avenue, New Brighton, who was in charge of his arrangements.

Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America #862 will conduct military honors for their fallen comrade.
