(Pittsburgh, PA) A suspect is now in custody after a man spent hours walking up the frozen Allegheny River. According to Pittsburgh Police, officers were called to the 7100 block of Highland Drive for reports of a person trespassing at the former VA site at 1 p.m. yesterday. When officers arrived, the man reportedly ran away. They caught up to him on Allegheny River Boulevard. Police state that he ignored repeated commands from officers and went onto the ice and he was taken into custody at 4 p.m. after exiting the ice near the 4600 block of Freeport Road in Harmar Township. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition by medics. The suspect is expected to be charged.
