Serbian Softball Tournament Being Held in Hopewell Area School District

At last week’s Hopewell Area School District’s board meeting Dave Tadich, chairperson for a Serbian Softball Tournament,  asked for permission to use the junior and senior high  fields on  July 23, 2016.  Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that the approval was granted and the  event is from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tadich said teams from as far away as Lackawanna, N.Y. will compete with teams from the Pittsburgh area.  He said he’s hoping a team from Canton, Ohio will  also join the Aliquippa group. A team of non-Serbs from the Aliquippa area is expected to participate. The junior high champs play against the high school champs, Tadich said. Each team will pay $50 for umpires and expenses the group incurs.  The American Serbian Club also helps to fund the event , he said.  Runners-up and winners in the tournament get t shirts. Players are treated to a  buffet dinner at the Serbian Club.
