Private Firm Predicts Big Money Losses For County

Gordon Mann of Public Financial Management of Philadelphia presented a 130 page early intervention report to commissioners addressing the county’s financial picture.

After all was said and done, the report highlighted two themes…increase revenues and reduce costs. The PFM report forecasts a 5.4 million dollar deficit for the 2019 county budget. Mann says the county must improve its financial reporting and recommends hiring a chief administrator in addition to a financial administrator.

Mann says compared to comparable counties, Beaver County is last in real estate taxes collected at about 90 percent. Mann says collecting the remaining 10 percent is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Commissioners will formally adopt the PFM report at the regular August 23rd meeting being scheduled for a special meeting time of 6 pm. Next week’s Wednesday work session and Thursday’s regular meeting have been cancelled.
