Police Changes Focal Point Of New Brighton Borough Meeting

Though it was one of the quickest meetings for the New Brighton Borough Council in recent memory–clocking in at just under 10 minutes–significant resolutions were approved on Thursday night.

Most notably, the council unanimously approved the hiring of a full-time police officer, Kylie Hermick, and the resignation of part-time officer Diontae Bradley, who–according to Borough Manager Tom Albanese–accepted a full-time position at a neighboring police department. While the staff doesn’t drop in numbers losing one officer and gaining another, it does present the borough with a challenge.

“With that hiring [of Hermick] and Diontae Bradley’s resignation, that depletes the current eligibility list and we need to test again,” Albanese warned. “So we’re asking that Borough Council request that Civil Service Commission again test for an entry-level police officer.”

The borough also unanimously approved a 1% reimbursement increase for school resource officer service fees per the CBA between the borough and the New Brighton Police Department, as well as the $17,118 purchase of a parking management and ticketing system from UpSafety to be paid over the next three years. Also approved was the authorization for the borough engineer to prepare a bid package for the draining and maintenance of the anaerobic digesters at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The bills were paid at a total of $377,556.50.
