Man accused of helping immigrants on driver’s license tests

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a former Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employee is accused of charging immigrants up to $350 to help them pass the knowledge test so they could ultimately obtain driver’s licenses. He said he was trying to help them. Pennsylvania State Police said Wednesday that Angelo Carrion was charged with 17 felony counts of bribery in official matters and other felony and misdemeanor counts. Police say everyone in the investigation was legally in the country and eligible to receive driver’s licenses. Reached by phone, Carrion said he plans to plead no contest to the charges and is waiting to see if he qualifies for a public defender.
