Two weeks after the public was made aware of the plan to shut down the Ice Arena’s ice for the summer, an update was provided about the operations at the latest Commissioners’ work session.

Parks & Recreation director Tony Caltury noted that the County’s Figure Skating Club has showcased its “outpouring of support” to retain its hours of usage throughout the Spring months, and suggested to the Commissioners that the ice remain open with reduced hours until the end of May. “My recommendation would be to remain open until the Friday before Memorial Day,” he said at the meeting. “Probably by 7:00 [PM], I think we could have our contracted hours, our stick time and our freestyle.”

The next Commissioners’ work session is set for May 4 at the Courthouse at 10:00 AM.
