Court Tosses Black Man’s Murder Conviction Over Racial Bias

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has thrown out the murder conviction and death sentence for a black man in Mississippi, saying the removal of black prospective jurors violated the defendant’s rights. The court’s 7-2 decision Friday means that defendant Curtis Flowers, who already has been tried six times, could face a seventh trial. The 20-year history of the case shows the prosecutor’s “relentless, determined effort to rid the jury of black individuals,” with the goal of an all-white jury, the court said.
