Clarification Given on Saturday’s Police Pursuit Incident

(Aliquippa, Pa.) Aliquippa Police Chief John Lane clarified on Monday morning after further investigation by Sandy Giordano about reports of a car chase that occurred on Saturday Afternoon. Chief Lane told Giordano that there was pursuit that took place after a traffic stop for an unauthorized vehicle. The incident occurred around 4 PM when the unnamed driver led police to a pursuit  through Aliquippa,  Hopewell ,and Monaca . The pursuit was called off in Ambridge  due to erratic driving by the suspect that would be putting the residents in danger, according to Chief Lane.

It was previously reported to Giordano by Aliquippa Sgt. Steve Roberts on Sunday night that there was no high speed chase on Route 51 on Saturday afternoon. Beaver County 9-1-1 told Giordano Sunday night that police were pursuing a vehicle in the area of the Aliquippa/Ambridge Bridge around 4 PM on Saturday and the action was terminated by Ambridge Police ended the pursuit that started originally in Aliquippa. Sgt. Roberts told Giordano that Ambridge Police felt it wasn’t safe to pursue the vehicle. After clarification from Chief Lane it was learned that the pursuit did in fact take place.
