Concern for staff, volunteers, adopters and community prompts decision
Aliquippa, PA, March 16, 2020– The Beaver County Humane Society in Center Twp and The Beaver County Humane Society Thrift Store in Beaver Falls, PA will be closed beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, 2020 until further notice.
Adoptions at the Center Township shelter will continue by appointment only.
“We are taking these steps to protect our staff, volunteers and the community,” said Susan Salyards, Executive Director.
The staff will continue caring for the animals at the shelter, although anyone interested in temporarily fostering a pet
should fill out our online application on our Web site at https://beavercountyhumanesociety.org/foster-services, and a
BCHS staff member will contact potential foster families on a case by case basis.
Current volunteers may visit to assist unless they, or a direct family member, are not feeling well. New volunteer
training and our education programs are suspended until further notice.
The shelter has many dogs, cats and rabbits waiting for homes. Potential adopters are encouraged to begin the process
by viewing adoptable pets on the shelter’s Web site at https://beavercountyhumanesociety.org/adopt and completing
an online application. All adoptable animals can be seen on our Web site. Once the application has been completed
online, those who want to meet a specific pet will be contacted by a BCHS staff member to schedule an appointment.
Anyone with a question about a pet or needs help with an animal they found should also call the shelter at 724-775-
5801 or if it is an emergency situation, please contact your local police department.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we make these temporary changes to protect everyone,”
said Salyards.
Updates will be available on the shelter’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/bchumanesociety/ and Web site
