Askar and Kwidis Hired As CYS Solicitors

Beaver County political figure Joe Askar returned to a county government capacity, being hired along with Dana Kwidis as solicitors for children and youth services. Vote on Askar was 2-1 with commissioners Dan Camp and Tony Amadio voting yes, commissioner Sandie Egley voted no.The vote on Kwidis was without opposition. Askar and Kwidis will each be paid 100 dollars per hour, not to exceed 75 thousand dollars each. Askar and Kwidis replace the fired Robert Masters. Askar is former county solicitor who is active in county politics and is a personal acquaintance of both Camp and Amadio.

Commissioners approved hiring the law firm of Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir for legal con sultations for labor and employment matters. A fee cap of 30 thousand dollars for the balance of 2018 will pay attorneys 215 dollars per hour and paraprofessionals 145 dollars per hour. Among labor matters, the county has seven union contracts up for negotiation.

Commissioners also accepted Watts Mill pedestrian bridge in Darlington as a county property once bridge restoration has been completed.
