UNDATED (AP) — In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, Birmingham, Alabama, Mayor Randall Woodfin says he is backing Joe Biden for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. Woodfin was among several Southern black mayors who met with the former vice president in Atlanta last month. Collectively, the group represents millions of voters in key early primary states. Candidates including current and former mayors have been courting mayors this cycle as crucial surrogates. Woodfin said on Sunday that he left the Atlanta meeting in November convinced that Biden is the best choice to defeat President Donald Trump and lead the country. Woodfin is expected to announce his endorsement on Monday.
