Ambridge Mother Ordered to Stand Trial in Her 10-Month Old’s Overdose Death

(Beaver, Pa.) The preliminary hearing for an Ambridge woman whose 10-month old baby died in early October after the baby ingested heroin in late September was held in Beaver County Court yesterday.

Melissa Miller was ordered to stand trial when a judge ruled that all four charges against her will stand, including third-degree murder.

On September 25, 2021 Police received a 911 call of a baby not breathing at a house on Rice Avenue. The baby was given two doses of Narcan by police and they conducted CPR on her until paramedics arrived and she was flown to Children’s Hospital.

Police said at the time they were told the baby had gotten into a bundle of heroin and was overdosing.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner said on October 12, 2021 that 10-month-old Myla Rushman from Ambridge died at Children’s Hospital on Saturday October, 9, 2021.

Miller told investigators she is a recovering addict.
