Pens Sign Matt Cullen to One year deal.

Pittsburgh PenguinsThe Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Matt Cullen to a one-year, $1 million contract Wednesday for his 20th NHL season. The 39-year-old Cullen helped the Penguins win the Stanley Cup last season.  Are all the pieces of the puzzle back together for another run at the Stanley Cup?? Ben Kennedy gets first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Win in Bristol.

AP904959152305 Ben Kennedy took the lead from William Byron with 20 laps to go in Wednesday night’s UNOH 200 and later withstood an intense six-lap shootout withBrett Moffitt to earn his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory at Bristol Motor Speedway last night.

With two laps to go, Moffitt, driving the No. 11 Toyota Tundra — the truck piloted earlier this season by Kennedy — gave the Daytona Beach, Florida, native a shot in the bumper, but Kennedy refused to be rattled and stretched his lead to 0.274 seconds at the checkered flag.

Moffitt, who earned a career-best second-place finish, didn’t have quite enough for Kennedy’s No. 33 Chevrolet Silverado when it counted most.

Bucs sweep Giants!!! Keep pace with Cardinals

The Pittsburgh Pirates Finished off a three game sweep of the San Francisco Giants yesterday afternoon and completed their west coast road trip with a 5-1 record and are now one game back of the Cardinals for the second wild card spot and only three games behind the Giants to be the first wild card. The Bucs are off today and start a home stand at PNC Park on Friday night against the Miami Marlins who the Pirates have a one game lead over in the wild card race. Airtime is 6:40 on WBVP/WMBA and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.  The Marlins will send Tom Koehler (9-8, 3.86 ERA) to the hill and the Pirates will start  Gerrit Cole (7-8, 3.25 ERA).

Pitt’s Third Uniform

It is back to the future for the Pitt Panthers.  The team revealed it’s throwback uniforms Tuesday morning. The throwback  uniforms  are royal blue with  white numbers outlined in bright gold.  It is the same uniform the  worned by the 1976  Panthers who won the national  championship.  It was worn by Dan Marino and Tony Dorsett.  The uniforms will debut October 8th at Homecoming.

Pirates Go For A Sweep

The Pirates go for sweep this afternoon in San Francisco. Jung Ho Kang’s  eighth inning home run won  Tuesday’s night game 4-3.  The win put the Pirates one game behind the St Louis Cardinals and in a tie with the Miami Marlins for the second wild card  spot.  Miami lost to Cincinnati  6-3 while the Cardinals beat Houston 8-5.  The Pirates open a three game series with the Marlins starting Friday night at PNC Park. Today’s starters  are a dentist’s delight.  Ivan Nova pitches for the Pirates. Matt Cain will start for the Giants.  Airtime is 3:20 on WBVP-WMBA.

Steelers Veterans to sit again this week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for their second preseason game when they host the Philadelphia Eagles at Heinz Field on Thursday night. And for the second consecutive week Coach Mike Tomlin will sit some of his offensive stars.
Running backs Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams , quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and receiver Antonio Brown will not play.  Center Maurkice Pouncey  who didn’t play last week, will return to the field this week for the first time after missing the entire 2015 season. Pirates on Fire on West coast !!!!!!

The Pittsburgh Pirates continued their hot west coast trip by beating the San Francisco Giants for the second game in a row and are now 4-1 on this trip. The Bucs won two out of three against the Dodgers last weekend and now have another series win after taking the first two games from the Giants.  The St. Louis Cardinals won beating the Houston Astros 8-5 keeping the Bucs at bay one game back for the second wild card. The Miami Marlins lost to the Reds 6-3 and are now tied with the Pirates.  The Giants are now the first wild card after falling into second place in the National League West with last nights loss and the Los Angeles Dodgers thumping of the Phillies 15-5.  Both the Giants and Cards have played two more games than the Pirates at this point in the season. The Pirates finish the west coast trip this afternoon as they go for a series sweep and a 5-1 road trip before they return home to PNC Park for the beginning of a six game home stand on Friday night against the Miami Marlins. The Bucs will send Ivan Nova to the mound looking for his third consecutive win since being acquired by the Yankees at the trading deadline. Nova is 9-6 with a 4.68 ERA overall on the season and will oppose Matt Cain who is 4-7 with a 5.47 ERA.  First pitch on WBVP/WMBA is scheduled for 3:45 this afternoon with pre-game starting at 3:20 pm.

Cleveland’s Gordon Finally Practices

After a year suspension and a non-football injury, Cleveland wide receiver Josh Gordon finally practiced on Monday.  It was the first time he practiced since December 26, 2014.  Two months later Gordon was suspended indefinitely for multiple violations of the NFL Drug Policy.  Meanwhile in New England, tight end Rob Gronkoski left Patriots joint practice with the Chicago Bears early.  Team spokesman says it is lower body issue

Polanco leads Bucs with Four RBI’s

The Pittsburgh Pirates are now only one game out of the second wildcard after Gregory Polanco lead the Pirates to victory with a home run and four  RBI’s Monday night from AT&T Park in San Francisco.  Andrew McCutchen  put a stop to a seventh inning rally with a sportscenter top 10 catch of the day.  Ryan Vogelsong picked up his first win in three starts since returning from the disabled list earlier this month . It was an emotional return to San Fran for Vogelsong as this is the first time he has been back since leaving San Fran as a player. The series continues tonight as the Bucs look to continue their hot west coast trip winning 3 of 4 so far. The Bucs will send rookie Jamison Taillon (3-2, 2.85 ERA) to the hill against Jeff Smardzija (10-8, 4.23 ERA). Tune into WBVP/WMBA tonight. First pitch scheduled for 10:15 PM EDT.

Pirates Setback.

A Pirates pitcher has suffered a setback.  Righthander  Tyler Glasnow who, is sufferung from right shoulder discomfort, left his rehab start with AA  Altoona on Sunday. Curve manager Joey Cora took out Glasnow after three innings.  He was suffering the same  discomfort that landed him on the disabled list.  In Glasnow’s three innings he surrendered two hits, three walks,  and five strikeouts.  He threw 55-pitches.
