Crosby Scores, gets Support, Penguins Beat Hurricanes 4-2

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Brian Boyle, Danton Heinen and Zach Aston-Reese scored to take some of the pressure off Sidney Crosby, Tristan Jarry stopped 41 shots and the Pittsburgh Penguins edged the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2. Crosby scored an empty-netter to reach the 20-goal plateau for the 14th time as the Penguins beat the Metropolitan Division-leading Hurricanes for the first time in three tries. Brett Pesce scored his fifth of the season and Sebastian Aho added his 27th but Carolina lost in regulation for just the second time in its last 12 games.

Freedom Girls defeat Greenville 56-28!


Freedom kicked this game off scoring points early and gaining a lead.  Greenville struggled to keep up with the Lady Bulldogs and trailed at the half 25-8.  Freedom kept their momentum in the second half while Greenville also managed to get more points on the board.  The mercy rule was kicked in late in the half and the Freedom Lady Bulldogs finished things off with a 56-28 win to move on to the next round of PIAA playoffs.

Aliquippa Makes a Comeback and Wins Against Brookville 53-50!


Brookville travelled to Aliquippa for a playoff showdown Wednesday night.  Brookville started the game out strong, keeping the lead for the most part of the first half.  The score at halftime was Brookville 27 Aliquippa 16. Aliquippa went on a run in the second half cutting their 15 point deficit and creeping back up the scoreboard. The Quips finally managed to grab the lead with around a minute left in the game and didn’t let it go, winning the game with a final score Aliquippa 53 Brookville 50.

Lincoln Park Wins Over Central Martinsburg 86 67

In a game full of turnovers and fast breaks Lincoln Park had plenty of good plays running up and down the court keeping the Dragons playing from far behind most of the game. When Martinsburg would hit some shots and close the gap to 9 points, the Leopards did respond in a big way  with some slams and good moves to win big at home. Their next game will be away against a district 10 team Fairview team the location is to be announced.

Malkin Has Goal, 2 Assists As Penguins Beat Lightning 5-1

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists, Tristan Jarry made 20 saves and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1. Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper was given a game misconduct for arguing with officials with 53.7 seconds remaining in the second period after the Lightning received an extra minor penalty stemming from a scrum. Sidney Crosby, Danton Heinen, Brock McGinn and Jake Guentzel had the other Pittsburgh goals as the Penguins improved to 19-6-3 on the road. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 35 shots and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored for the Lightning.
