WPIAL AA Baseball Championship: California 3, Freedom 1 (F/10)

The Freedom Bulldogs and California Trojans were locked in a pitchers’ duel through 9 innings (7 + 2 extra in high school baseball), but in the top of the 10th the Trojan bats finally arose to score two runs. Freedom could not answer in the bottom half of the third extra frame, and California wins the WPIAL AA Baseball Championship.

The Bulldogs will now enter the PIAA Playoffs as the #2 seed out of the WPIAL, and they will play the District 6 Championship in Round One.

ALXN Basketball League Holds Inaugural Games In New Brighton

The ALXN Basketball Association (ABA) held its inaugural tripleheader of games at the some of competed in 3 games in the league formed by Scott Alaksin. Beaver County Radio brought the action live with Bob Barrickman and Tom Hays on the call.

East Final: Penguins 1, Senators 0

After a defensive struggle that lasted for more than 50 minutes, Evgeni Malkin found Phil Kessel to score the first goal of the game, and that held as the Penguins win 1-0 against the Ottawa Senators in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Game 4: Penguins 3, Capitals 2

Justin Schultz broke a 2-2 tie midway throughout the second period, and Marc-Andre Fleury and the Penguins defense held fast, as Pittsburgh wins Game 4 by a score of 3-2 against the Washington Capitals, taking a commanding 3-1 series lead in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Jake Guentzel and Patric Hornqvist also tallied for the Pens, and Fleury made 36 saves on the night, earning the game’s honor of First Star.
