LORETTO, Pa. (AP) — Isaiah Blackmon had a career-high 30 points as St. Francis (Pa.) topped Robert Morris 86-71 for its sixth consecutive victory. Mark Flagg had 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, and Keith Braxton added 19 points and six rebounds for St. Francis. Randall Gaskins Jr. had seven assists. With Merrimack in first place and ineligible for the NEC tournament, St. Francis moved closer to securing the No. 1 seed with three games remaining. Charles Bain had 17 points for the Colonials. AJ Bramah added 14 points, and Yannis Mendy had 12 points and seven rebounds.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sidney Crosby had a goal and three assists to help the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2. Bryan Rust had a goal and two assists, and Jason Zucker, Teddy Blueger and Anthony Angello also scored as Pittsburgh moved past Washington into first place in the Metropolitan Division. Tristan Jarry stopped 34 shots while picking up his 13th win in his last 17 games. Auston Matthews scored his 43rd goal for the Maple Leafs and Kyle Clifford scored his seventh of the season and first since he was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings. Frederik Andersen stopped 19 shots for Toronto.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Patrick Williams scored 16 points, Anthony Polite had 10 points and six rebounds and No. 8 Florida State pulled away in the second half, beating Pittsburgh 82-67. Williams, a freshman forward, scored in double figures for the 10th time this season as the Seminoles improved to 14-0 at home. Au’Diese Toney had 15 points and seven rebounds, and Xavier Johnson added 12 points and seven assists for Pittsburgh, which has lost six of its last eight games.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — NASCAR driver Ryan Newman is awake and speaking with family and doctors a day after his horrific crash on the final lap of the Daytona 500. Roush Fenway Racing released an update on its driver about 20 hours after Newman’s car slammed into the wall at nearly 200 mph, flipped, got T-boned by another car, flipped several more times and skidded to a halt in flames. Everyone watching feared the worst Monday night and had to wait nearly two hours to learn that Newman’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. The latest update was more good news for the 42-year driver and 2008 Daytona 500 champion.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Denny Hamlin won the Daytona 500 for the third time when he beat Ryan Blaney to the finish line in the second-closest finish in race history. The win for Joe Gibbs Racing came as Ryan Newman was wrecked as the leader and crossed the finish line with his car on its roof, engulfed in flames. The race was pushed back a day by rain for just the second time in 62 years and Hamlin won after two red flags and two overtimes. He’s the first back-to-back Daytona winner since Sterling Marlin in 1995.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Noah Gragson wins his first career Xfinity Series race with a win under caution at Daytona International Speedway. The win was the third consecutive victory at Daytona for JR Motorsports, the team co-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Gragson is in his second season driving a Chevrolet for JRM. He celebrated wildly on the frontstretch after the win. The race ended after a crash on the last lap of Saturday’s season opener.
