Aliquippa 42, South Park 7

Many changes came to the WPIAL Playoffs this year, including Aliquippa (and a host of others) moving up to 3A and playing only three rounds of playoffs.

One thing though that did not change was Aliquippa being #1 in the WPIAL Playoffs, and proving why in the first round.

The Quips cruise to a 42-7 victory over the #8-seeded South Park Eagles at Moe Rubenstein Stadium on WMBA. The Quips improve to 9-2 and will play Derry in the Class 3A seminfinals next Friday.

South Park’s Adam Morris and Aliquippa’s Xavier Fisher earned CCBC Player of The Game honors.

Rochester 39, Riverview 6

It’s been a while since the Rochester Rams made the WPIAL Playoffs (2012), but Gene Matsook’s squad acted tonight as if they’d never left.

#2 Rochester dominated the #15 Riverview in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs with a 39-6 win on WBVP. Rochester improves to 10-0 and will face Imani Christian in the quarterfinals next Friday, site and time to be determined.

Nasan Tibbens of Riverview and Rochester’s Andrew Massey were named CCBC Players of The Game.

Aliquippa 36, Hopewell 30

Last week Aliquippa had to come back to find victory. In this final week, they had to hang on for dear life.

The Quips hold on to beat the Hopewell Vikings 36-30 in the season finale at The Pit on WMBA. Hopewell was able to erase a 30-3 lead to get within six, but the Quips held on late to clinch the #1 seed in the Beaver Valley Conference. Aliquippa finishes at 5-1 in the section and 8-2 overall. Hopewell finishes 5-5 overall, 1-5 in the BVC.

Daveon Jones (Aliquippa) and Billy DePaul (Hopewell) were named the CCBC Players of The Game.

Beaver Falls 20, Beaver 15

Beaver went into this week ranked #1 in the WPIAL and #1 in the PIAA in Class 3A.

At the end of the week, they are out of the WPIAL Playoffs.

The Bobcats lose out and fall to fourth in the Beaver Valley Conference with a 20-15 loss to Beaver Falls at Pat Tarquinio Field on WBVP. The Tigers’ win gave them a share of the BVC title (with Aliquippa), and will host a playoff game in Round 1. Beaver finishes 7-2 overall and 4-2 in conference, good for fourth place. BF finishes at 5-1 in the conference, 8-1 overall.

The Tigers’ Dalton Cleckley joins the Bobcats’ Brad Barker as the CCBC Players of The Game.

Montour 38, Blackhawk 14

Week 8 means playoff spots are on the line. But for the Blackhawk Cougars, it has to wait until Week 9.

The Cougars must win at home against New Castle in Week 9 in order to make the playoffs; a loss will result in elimination.
