The WPIAL has announced the neutral-site locations for the quarterfinal matchups in 1A & 2A, and the semifinals in 3A on upwards. Local schools that are playing or hosting are marked below in bold. All games are Friday night at 7:30.

  • It was a crisp cool night for the opening round of high school playoff football. It was all Riverside throughout this one. Riverside did play a sloppy game, but Frazier’s play was ever sloppier. There were a laundry list of flags to end the first half, which took forever with less than two minutes left. Riverside came out swinging in the second half and Frazier continued to get penalties and no points. The final score was Riverside-28 Frazier-0.

Rochester 39 west Greene 14 final

Tonight West Greene traveled to Rochester in hopes of advancing in the playoffs and came up short. At the end of the first rochester was the only ones to put up any points with a touchdown and a two point conversion making it 8 to 0 rochester. In the second rochester was able to put up two more touchdowns both followed by two point conversions. West Greene did manage to put up 8 points just before the half making the score 26 to 8 rochester. After the half rochester scored again bringing theyre score to 32 but were shortly answered by west greene who put up 6 more giving them 14. The fourth quarter rochester put up another 7 points and ending the game with a final of Rochester 39 West Greene 14.

First Round Of 2017 WPIAL Playoffs Are Set

The postseason has arrived in high school football, and the WPIAL announced the matchups for Round 1 Monday night during its pairings meeting. Nine local teams (designated in bold below) have qualified.

Beaver County Radio will broadcast two games on Friday Night for Round 1. 1230 WBVP will feature the 4/13 matchup in 2A, as Riverside will host Frazier. On 1460 WMBA, the #6 seed in 1A, Rochester, will do battle with #11 West Greene. Pregame for both games will be at 7:00pm.

All games below begin at 7:30pm unless otherwise noted. Top seed will play at home field.

The Beaver Falls Tigers came out moving the ball. It looked like they were going to take the first lead of the game, but fell short. It was all Beaver for the rest of the game. Beaver Falls eventually scored, but missed the extra point. The Beaver Bobcats not only needed a win, but some help from other teams to secure a wild card playoff entree, which is exactly what happened. The players of the game were Gino Mavero for Beaver and Kani Jones- Thomas for Beaver Falls. The final score was Beaver-68 Beaver Falls-6.
