Helen Kazil (1934-2025)

Helen Kazil, 91, of Ambridge, passed away peacefully on August 13th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy stitched together with love, devotion, and the gentle grace that defined her life. She was born in Sewickley on April 15, 1934, a daughter of the late John and Katherine Metzak Kuharsky, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Sheehan, Rose Melnick, Ann Opriska and a brother, William Kuharsky.
For 68 years, she walked hand in hand with the love of her life, James Kazil, building a home where laughter was abundant and every gathering was seasoned with care. Together, they raised three children, Donna Hoge of Ambridge, Anthony (Ginger) Kazil of Monaca and Kenneth (Rhonda) Kazil of Ambridge. She is also survived by her brother, John (Michaelyn) Kuharsky, eight grandchildren: Adam, Danielle, James, Toni Marie, Kurt, Andrew, Wyatt, and Sierra; along with thirteen great grandchildren: Harper, Emmarie, Olive Mae, JAK, Levi, Ford, Amelia, Maelyn Marie, Noah, Jones, Cooper, Reed and Coleson.

Helen was a true artist in the kitchen that could turn the simplest ingredients into a feast, each meal infused with her warmth and generosity. Her table was never just about food: it was about belonging, and every guest left feeling like family.  She found her heaven on earth along Valley Road, where love grew in every corner and the seasons passed gently around her.  Helen’s spirit will forever be carried in the scent of a home-cooked meal, the embrace of family, and the quiet beauty of a life well-lived.
Friends will be received on Friday, August 15th, from 4-6 P.M. in the John Syka Funeral Home Inc., 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge, who was in charge of her arrangements and where a prayer service will be held on Saturday, August 16th at 10 A.M. with Father Michael Polosky officiating. Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, 1691 Ridge Road Extension #1601, Ambridge.

Judith A. Mancini Steff (1947-2025)

Judith A. Mancini Steff, 78, of Ohioville, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on August 11th, 2025.

She was born on June 2nd, 1947, a daughter of the late Frances Vujaklya and Angelo and Marianna Mancini. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Sonny” Steff and an infant sister, Christine Vujaklya. She is survived by her children, David (Amy) Steff, and Lisa (Keith) Hohenshel, her cherished grandchildren: Christian (Breann) Steff, Anthony (Emma Dieringer) Steff, Olivia
(Alex Kinney) Hohenshel, and Nicholas (Maura Sosack) Hohenshel; as well as her
brothers, George “Butchie” (Karen) Viakley, Pete “Porky” (Brenda) Vujaklya, Michael “Mike” Vujaklya, Robert “Bobby” Vujaklya, and Milan “Mimi” (Michelle) Vujaklya; along with her sisters, Kathy (Alex) Ellis, Donna (Paul) Francis, and Frances “Francy” Vujaklya.

Judith had lived in Midland her entire childhood and Ohioville with her late husband Walter “Sonny” Steff. She retired as a pharmacy tech from the Medical Center after 30 years and was a proud member of St. Blaise Church of Midland, part of St. Agusutine Parish. She loved to cook and bake and if anyone came over to eat, they were full when they left. Some of her favorite activities included going on family vacations to Ocean City, Maryland with her family and shopping. She was a devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, August 15th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home, 629 Midland Avenue, Midland, who was in charge of her arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 16th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Blaise Church,  772 Ohio Avenue, Midland.

Joseph P. Feltes, Sr. (1949-2025)

Joseph P. Feltes, Sr., 75, of Hopewell Township, peacefully passed away with his cherished family by his side on August 12th, 2025. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 9th, 1949, a son of the late Edward Joseph and Agnes (Drake) Feltes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Schriner, and his grandson, EJ Feltes. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Diana (McDermott) Feltes, his children, Dawn (John) Leigh and Joseph (April) Feltes, Jr., his sisters, Priscilla, Kathy, and Gerri, his brother, Alan Ward and eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Joseph honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a dedicated member of Chapter 862 of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) and retired from American Bridge, where he worked for many years as a burner. Joseph cherished spending time with his family and friends and found joy in fishing and hunting. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14th, from 2 P.M. until the time of a prayer service at 5 p.m. and on Friday, August 15th from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Anthony Mastrofrancesco Funeral Home Inc., 2026 McMinn Street, Aliquippa, who was in charge of his arrangements. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. with military honors in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville.
Joseph will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who loved him.

Wendy Sue May (1975-2025)

Wendy Sue May, 49, of Rochester, passed away unexpectedly on August 9th, 2025, at Rochester Manor & Villa.

She was born in Rochester on August 16th, 1975, a daughter of the late William Sr. and Sandra (Wolff) Icenhour. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Darrell Alan May and her grandmother, Kathryn Wolff. She is survived by her son, Luke May, her siblings, Katrina Icenhour, Kelly Rigby, and Jason Dobbins, her grandfather, William Wolff, Sr., her uncle, William Wolff, Jr., nieces and nephews: Eileen, with whom she shared a special bond, Pamela, Kristy, Joel,  Adam, Haylie and Savannah; as well as many dear friends.

Wendy dedicated part of her career as a district director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association before becoming a devoted stay-at-home mother. She had a gift for making those around her feel loved and welcomed, whether through heartfelt conversation, her talent for baking, or her joy in decorating for the holidays: especially Christmas. Wendy also loved getting lost in a good book and cherished time spent with her nieces and nephews.

A small memorial will be held for close family only. Arrangements have been entrusted to the branch of Gabauer Funeral Homes.

Joan L. Hagerty (1943-2025)

Joan L. Hagerty, 81, formerly of Austintown, Ohio, New Springfield, Ohio, and Rochester, passed away on July 27th, 2025, in Austintown, Ohio. She was born in New Brighton on October 16th, 1943,  the daughter of the late Vernon L., and Agnes M. Martincek Leister. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Hagerty. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Leigh Ann Hagerty of New Springfield, Ohio, one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon L. and Kevin Kilmer of Rochester, as well as five grandchildren: Lauren Callahan and her husband Matt, Lindsey Hagerty Marinelli and her husband Bobby, Andrew Hagerty and his wife Aurora, Mitchell and Abigail Kilmer; as well as eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Vernon R. Leister of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. She was a retired Deli Clerk Assistant Manager at Giant Eagle in Rochester, as well as a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church of East Palestine, Ohio, and a former member of St. Cecilia’s, Roman Catholic Church of Rochester. Ronald R. Fritz, Sr. (1942-2025)

Ronald R. Fritz, Sr., 83, of Beaver Falls, passed away on August 12th, 2025 at his residence in Patterson Township.

He was born on March 11th, 1942, the son of the late Lenard and Margaret Fritz.

Ronald is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Marion (Nunemacher) Fritz; his son, Ronald Fritz Jr; and grandsons, Todd Allen and Cody Michael.

Jeanne Lothrop Yozaites (Passed on August 2nd, 2025)

Jeanne Lothrop Yozaites, formerly of Monaca, passed away on August 2nd, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Howard Lothrop and her brother, Bob. She is survived by her loving son, Stephen Yozaites, Jr. of New York, her sister, Sue (Richard) Moore of Texas, her brother, Howard (Laura) Lothrop of Tennessee and her brother, Richard (Denise) Lothrop of West Virginia and her ex-husband, Stephen, who stood by Jeanne’s side during these past few months.

Jeanne spent the previous 35 years working for the Central Intelligence Agency and traveling the world.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, August 15th from 6 to 9 p.m. at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca, who was in charge of her arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 16th at 10 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1409 Pennsylvania Avenue, Monaca. Her burial will follow in the parish cemetery of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Jeanne had two dear friends, Carol Pastoric and Pam Grigio, whom she’s known from childhood and who both played an important role in Jeanne’s role.

Both Jeanne and her family also acknowledge the friendship and care provided to Jeanne by Soozi Hunt and the Hunt Family, who provided great comfort to Jeanne over the past months.

James Grove (1937-2025)

James Grove, 88, of Beaver, passed away on August 8th, 2025. He was born on March 21st, 1937, a son of the late Frank and Faye Grove. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cheryl Ann Grove, his son, Michael Grove and his brother, Mike Grove.

He is survived by his children, Jimmy (Star) Grove and Ronald (Robin) Grove, his brother, Pat (Susan) Grove, his granddaughter, Alicia (Donald) King, his brother-in-law, Robert (Sharon) Kingerski, his nephews and nieces: Josh (Amy) Grove, Katie Grove, Robert (Rae) Kingerski, Nicholas (Veronica) Kingerski, and Jessica Kingerski; as well as his great-niece, Demi Kingerski, his special friends: Stephanie Gray, Andy Gray, Andrew Gray, and Mike Mevoglion; along with all his friends at Francis Farmer Apartments.

Kathleen M. Meckling (1959-2025)

Kathleen M. Meckling, 65, of Conway, passed away on August 12th, 2025. She was born on November 23rd, 1959, a daughter of the late Richard and Barbara Meckling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Scott and Andrew Meckling.

She is survived by her five siblings, Christina Meckling, Lori (Jonathan) McCawley, Richard Meckling, Alfred Meckling, and John Meckling, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathleen was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed collecting nail polish, tea candles, and brass knickknacks, including small pots and pans. She also loved to crochet.

William H. Lohr (1929-2025)

William H. Lohr, 96, passed away peacefully at his home on August 10th, 2025. He was
born in Rochester on June 16th, 1929, a son of the late William N. and Helen J. Lohr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his partner of 39 years, James L. Charron and a brother-in-law, Paul Hoback, Sr. He is survived by a brother, Jeffrey (Margie) Lohr of Portland, Oregon, his nephew Andrew (Dalna) Lohr and their children, Susanna and Reuben, his sister-in-law, Sue Hoback of Beaver, nephew, Paul (Amy) Hoback Jr. and their son, Cannon of Beaver, and niece, Angela (David) Hoffman and sons, Mathew and Ryan of Seminole, Florida. He will also be missed by his dear friends, Brenda and Moe Mercier and their family of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

WIlliam was a 1947 graduate of Beaver High School. He graduated from Grove City
College in 1951, and then received his Master’s Degree from the University of
Pittsburgh. His additional graduate work was done at The Penn State University. He
began his teaching career in Midland enjoying 10 years working with elementary
students. In 1962, he took a position in the Beaver Area Schools and became a principal there in 1964. After 38 years in the job that he loved so very much, he retired in June 1990. Not content to leave the school setting, he became a volunteer at the
Brighton Township School for the next 20 years. In addition, he was a volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Bank and worked with the Beaver County Academic Games. He was a member of the PASR and was in charge of their annual spelling bee held each Spring, served on the Board of the Beaver Area Educational Foundation, and was a member of the Beaver Area Heritage Foundation. In his free time, Bill enjoyed cooking, gardening, cruising on the ocean and traveling in Europe with friends.

In accordance with William’s wishes, no public services will be held.
