Penguins Preview: November 1, 2017

The Penguins head into Rogers Place tonight in Edmonton to take on the Oilers at 8:30.

Pittsburgh is looking to sweep the season series against Edmonton, having won the prior matchup on October 24 by a score of 2-1 in OT. They’re also looking for their first victory on their five-game road trip, having lost 2-1 to Minnesota and 7-1 to Winnipeg over the weekend.

Evgeni Malkin leads the Pens in points with 13 (tied with Phil Kessel) heading into tonight. Despite his personal successes, however, Malkin said after practice on Tuesday that the Penguins’ inconsistency is simply a matter of “not playing right”:

Mike Sullivan Disappointed In Penguins’ Output After Winnipeg Loss

The Pittsburgh Penguins have fallen to 0-4 in the second game of back-to-backs, losing to the Winnipeg Jets 7-1 at the MTS Centre Sunday night. The Pens’ goal differential in those four games (all road games) is an alarming -24, with Matt Murray giving up 10 goals over 68:51 of playing time in two of those four games (including the first 18:07 of last night).

Coach Mike Sullivan spoke after the game last night, and he feels a part of this solution will be for his players to get back to what needs done on the ice, even if it’s a “thankless task”:

When asked about the reality of his team playing back-to-back games for the 4th time this year, Sullivan said it was more a matter of effort:
