Ambridge mayor and other local leaders announce Governor Josh Shapiro’s Main Street Matters program

(Ambridge, PA) Representative Rob Matzie, along with other local leaders, including the mayor of Ambridge, announced Governor Josh Shapiro’s program that is titled Main Street Matters in Ambridge on Tuesday. These representatives visited with five Ambridge businesses and talked with both their owners and employees for his budget worth $20 million to increase the economic standpoint, jobs, and districts for downtown businesses.

Geneva College chemistry professor is in the hospital and responsive after being burned trying to make a solvent

(Beaver Falls, PA) A Geneva College chemistry professor is responsive and in the hospital after being burned with a solvent on Monday afternoon. A spokesperson from Geneva College confirmed that he was trying to make a lab solution before it started to catch fire at 5 p.m. There were no others injured after the accident. Normal operation at Geneva College will continue where the fire occurred, and the professor’s injury severity is undetermined. 

Vice President Kamala Harris will have another event in Pittsburgh to continue her presidential campaign

(Pittsburgh, PA) Vice President and Democratic Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris is staying in Pittsburgh for a Thursday event. According to the White House, this is Vice President Harris’ 10th time in Pennsylvania in 2024. It is not confirmed what time the event is occurring on Thursday and what it will involve. This comes after Vice President Harris’ collaborative event with President Biden on Monday celebrating Labor Day on the South Side of Pittsburgh, where she announced that ownership of U.S. Steel will be domestic. 

Pennsylvania students respond to fall 2023 survey about mental health issues

(Pennsylvania) Adolescents and youth in Pennsylvania have reviewed their mental health habits from a fall 2023 survey. According to a survey conducted by Pennsylvania Youth Survey last year, they gathered responses from almost 263,000 students in 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grades. The Pennsylvania adolescents that were surveyed do not do drugs, consume alcohol, and smoke as much as the youth that were surveyed. Both students using marijuana and drinking alcoholic beverages have decreased over the last two years. However, more than a third of those surveyed experienced depression mostly with around 16% considering suicide and an estimated quarter of them did not feel comfortable at school because of external factors involving safety. 

Hopewell police officer issues Labor Day safety statement

(Hopewell, PA) Hopewell Township Police Officer Brandon Fedorka has issued an enforcement to keep Beaver County safe on Labor Day. Fedorka confirms that the Beaver County Highway Safety Task Force will be placing checkpoints to check and see if people are sober to support Pennsylvania’s Impaired Driving Initiative. He has also confirmed that people must be responsible on the road concerning alcohol, as well as making sure people both have a designated driver and to wear their seatbelts, because it is the law, to reduce the case of an accident.

(Brighton Twp., Pa.) Tuesday morning, September 3, 2024, at 6:30 AM an all new show titled “Driving in the Fast Lane with Frank Sparks” will debut.

The new show hosted by Beaver County Radio General Manager, Frank Sparks, will have a different spin compared to other morning talk shows. The show will be a townhall setting. Sparks will have topics to discuss with the listeners along with news, sports, weather and much more. Sparks said “The beauty of the show is that we may be talking a bout politics or sports and someone might call in and want to talk about a topic that is important to them in the community. We can shift and talk about that” “One thing I am proud of is even if you don’t agree with me or I don’t agree with you you will still have the opportunity to have your say.”

Sparks previously the hosted Teleforum before Eddy Crow from March of 2017 until June of 2020. He has served as Program Director starting in March of 2017 and has continued in that role since being promoted to station General Manager in December of 2022. Mostly recently he has been co-hosting “The Beaver Morning Show” with Scott Tady on 99.3 FM  and WBVP’s sister station “The Beaver” 95.7 FM and WMBA.

Scott Tady will continue hosting “The Beaver Morning Show”. He will now be solo  rom 7-10 AM Monday Thru Friday. There will be occasional special guests along with news at the bottom of each hour.

Indiana County teen has been found by state police

(Burrell Township, PA) An Indiana County teen has now been found after he was missing since Thursday. Troopers have safely located 16-year-old Dyllan P. Ryan, who left his house in Burrell Township at 11 a.m. on Thursday. If you have an emergency like this situation in the future, please is call 911 or state police at 724-357-1998.

(Beaver County, PA) Today is Labor Day, and people are always hoping to get away for this holiday. According to AAA data, international travel over the upcoming Labor Day weekend is 11% higher than the same time last year. Europe is a popular destination with 80% of international destinations being European cities. Some of the United States spots to travel include Seattle, Boston, Orlando, New York, Las Vegas, and Anchorage, Alaska.

State historical marker ceremony to be held in Baden recognizing Sisters of Saint Joseph

(Baden, PA) The Sisters of Saint Joseph are welcoming folks in Beaver County to join them for a ceremony on September 8th that will celebrate them and their accomplishments where they made a historical marker for Pennsylvania in Baden. According to a press release, the Sisters of Saint Joseph, who initiated the process of bringing the first ever historic marker to Baden, which honors the contributions of religious women in Beaver County, as well as the first recognizing a women-led organization of any kind. The historical marker is on State Street and Route 65, which displays the entrance of the Baden Motherhouse. Those speaking include from state Rep. Robert Matzie, a member of the Pennsylvania History and Museum Commission; the Most Rev. Bishop David Zubik, and congregational archivist Kathleen Washy. Judges in Pennsylvania rule that incorrectly dated voting ballots do not protect voting rights

(Harrisburg, PA) The upcoming 2024 Presidential Election here in Pennsylvania will be a little more accurate as a Pennsylvania court ruled that ballots with hand-written dates to be mailed in breaches the voting rights of the state. The CommonWealth Court of Pennsylvania ruled 4-1 on Friday that voters that forgot to include the date on their ballot makes their vote unconstitutional and could have themselves disqualified. Pennsylvania has continued to remain a state that could decide the election between Presidential nominees Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
