On this month’s show Tom will be discussing Money and Politics and if the current Political Environment is good  or bad for your money and how you should plan financially. Tom will also talk about the United States being bankrupt and the current National Debt.

Trial ordered in shooting that killed 1 officer, wounded 2nd in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A man has been ordered to stand trial in the shooting death of one police officer and the wounding of another in western Pennsylvania earlier this month. Thirty-one-year-old Johnathan Jermia Morris of McKeesport is charged in Allegheny County with criminal homicide, attempted homicide and assault of a law enforcement officer and firearms crimes in the Feb. 6 shootings in McKeesport, about 12 miles (20 kilometers) south of Pittsburgh. Detective Patrick Kinavey testified Friday during a preliminary hearing that Morris told him he didn’t remember shooting at Officer Sean Sluganski, who was killed, and only opened fire after racking his gun wasn’t enough to scare the officers off.

Penn State Dance Marathon raises $15 million in pediatric cancer funds

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Hundreds of Penn State students have raised more than $15 million for pediatric cancer patients in the annual 46-hour dance marathon known as Thon. The $15,006,132.46 total was announced Sunday afternoon at the conclusion of the Penn State Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, billed as the world’s largest student-run philanthropy. It topped last year’s total of $13,756,374.50, Money raised benefits pediatric cancer patients and their families at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Officials say the dance marathon, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, has raised $204 million and the fund has helped over 4,800 families.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Students will be gradually returning this week to a Pittsburgh school following a shooting last week outside the school that wounded four students. Pittsburgh Public Schools said there will be a “phased approach to the reentry of staff and students this week” at Pittsburgh Westinghouse Academy 6-12. Students will be working from home Monday. Those in grades 6-8 are to will return for in-person instruction at the Homewood school on Tuesday. Students in grades 9-12 will return for in-person instruction on Wednesday. Superintendent Wayne Walters said in a statement that the gradual re-entry would allow staff and students “time to process and seek assistance as needed.”

CLEARFIELD, Pa. (AP) — Under court order, the FBI has released a trove of photos, videos, maps and other documents involving its secretive search for Civil War-era gold. The FBI excavated a remote site in Dents Run, Pennsylvania, in 2018 after sophisticated testing suggested tons of gold might be buried there. The government says the dig came up empty, but a treasure hunter believes otherwise. Dennis Parada fought for the release of FBI records on the dig. He’s now gone to federal court to accuse the FBI of distorting key evidence and improperly withholding records. The FBI defends its handling of the records.

Norfolk Southern CEO visits East Palestine after derailment

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio (AP) — The president of Norfolk Southern made a visit to East Palestine, Ohio, on Saturday following criticism from residents and political leaders about the company’s response to the fiery derailment of a freight train carrying toxic materials earlier this month. Fox Business reports that company president and CEO Alan Shaw told reporters Saturday he was there “to support the community” but declined further comment. Gov. Mike DeWine earlier said Shaw needed to go to East Palestine and answer questions after company officials skipped a Wednesday public meeting, saying they were worried about physical threats. The company has vowed to ensure that residents and the environment “not only recover but thrive.”
