New Development In Hopewell Twp.

Hopewell township Zoning Hearing Board approved a request from Kelar Properties LLC   owners of Washington Street Apartments  last night   for variances to build 6 townhouses on the existing property. this year.  According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, the units will  have 2 bedrooms and 1/12 baths Zoning board, co owner Phil Laird told the board .chairman Dan Maravich  said that residents have 30 days to appeal the decision if they aren’t in favor of the development.    The owners Phil Laird and Ed Keller told the board that they plan to build 18 more units in the future. Mr. Laird said   2 18 unit apartments are located  on the 3.3 acre site.  The men purchased the site last year from Glen Wells of Pittsburgh..

Man Killed In Car Crash In Hanover Twp

Another fatal accident in Beaver County. Police say a Hookstown man was killed Monday when the car he was driving through the intersection of Kendall Road and State Route 168 in Hanover Township….struck an embankment. State police in Beaver say 56-year-old Michael Stroud died at the scene of the accident. Police are investigating what caused the crash.

AMBRIDGE MAN FACING CHILD LURING CHARGES

A man is facing charges for allegedly trying to lure young girls into his car in Ambridge. Kurtis Netherland was arrested over the weekend and is accused of approaching two girls, ages 11 and 12,  and asking if they wanted to get in his vehicle and make some money. Netherland is a delivery driver and was at Economy Village on company time when the alleged incident was caught on security cameras. Netherland later confessed but claims he was just joking around with the girls.

Centennial Stamp In Honor of JFK Issued

John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the  youngest U.S. president to be elected into office in 1960, and his 100th birthday  would be May 29, Memorial Day 2017.  According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, a forever stamp was issued yesterday by the U.S. Postal Service.t , President’s Day in his honor John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston, Mass. The stamps are available today in all U.S. Post Offices , according to Mark Saunders, the post office department’s media contact .  The stamps cost .$49 each. The stamp  features a 1960  photo of Kennedy by Ted Spiegel taken in Seattle while he was on the campaign trail . Artwork on the stamp shows the late president in a reflective pose  is a 1970 oil painting by Aaron Shikler through the White House Historical Association Jack Schlossberg, Kennedy’s grandson , said in a news release that ” our family is honored that the Postal Service is commemorating  my grandfather with this stamp.” Kennedy visited Aliquippa, on October 12, 1962.  Kennedy Boulevard is named for the late president.

1 Killed In Early-Morning Daugherty Township Crash

One person was killed early Sunday morning in a traffic accident in Daugherty Township, emergency dispatchers said. The crash was reported about 3 a.m. on Mercer Road. The Beaver County Coroner’s Office says that 44-year-old Wilbert Kennedy of Ellwood City died of blunt force trauma.

POLICE FIND 4-YEAR-OLD WHO WENT MISSING IN CHIPPEWA

POLICE HAVE FOUND A 4-YEAR-OLD BOY WHO WENT MISSING IN CHIPPEWA TOWNSHIP OVER THE WEEKEND. BEAVER COUNTY EMERGENCY DISPATCHERS SAY THE CHILD DISAPPEARED FROM THE 200 BLOCK OF OAKVILLE ROAD IN CHIPPEWA AROUND 4 P-M ON SUNDAY. AROUND 5:45, OFFICIALS AT THE SCENE SAID THE CHILD HAD BEEN FOUND, ALIVE AND WELL, IN A NEIGHBOR’S CLOSET, AFTER FOLLOWING THE NEIGHBOR’S DOG HOME.

Suspicious Car At Downtown Pittsburgh Amtrak Station Prompts Bomb Squad Response

A suspicious car at the downtown Amtrak station prompted a response from Pittsburgh police and the bomb squad this morning. Amtrak officials initially contacted police about a car that had been parked overnight. When bomb-sniffing dogs checked out the car, something alerted them and the surrounding area was shut down. However, the vehicle was opened and nothing was found. The roads have since been reopened.
