Gibbons Is Named Democratic Chairman Of House Tourism & Recreational Development Committee

State Rep. Jaret Gibbons – a Democrat representing Beaver, Butler and Lawrence Counties – will assume a new leadership role in Harrisburg. Gibbons has been named the Democratic Chairman of the House Tourism and Recreational Development Committee. Gibbons talked to Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak about how much our county and state have to offer when it comes to tourism and recreation but he says the state needs to do a better job of marketing itself. Gibbons says that travel, tourism and hospitality providers employ several hundred-thousand Pennsylvanians.

Aliquippa Elementary Gifted Education Fundraiser

Debbie Frank, Aliquippa Elementary School Gifted Education Coordinator, announced this morning her class is selling doughnuts tomorrow from 8:20 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. Beaver County Radio News correspondent Sandy Giordano reports the class is holding the fundraiser so they can make a trip to Philadelphia in May. Doughnuts are $1 each. On Thursday, sugar cookies will be sold 2 for a $1 from 8:20 a.m. to 8:40 a.m. Anyone wishing to donate for the student’s trip must do so by April 30th, Frank said this morning. Sears Is Closing Store At Beaver Valley Mall

A major retail outlet is closings its doors for good in Beaver County. Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti is reporting that Sears is closing its department store and auto store at the Beaver Valley Mall in Monaxa next month. Store employees have been told that their last day to report to work will be May 7th, 2016.

Suspect Is Named In Cookout Ambush In Wilkinsburg

A detective has testified at a bond hearing that a Pittsburgh man arrested for a third time on drug and weapons charges stemming from a police search three years ago is a suspect in a cookout ambush last month that killed five adults and an unborn child. Allegheny County Detective Steve Hitchings testified yesterday that Robert Thomas has been told he’s a suspect in last month’s shootings in Wilkinsburg.

Bill Clinton Looses His Cool With Protesters

Former President Bill Clinton found himself in a heated exchange yesterday with protesters upset about welfare reform and gun laws passed when he was in office 20 years ago. At a rally in Philadelphia for his wife, Clinton was interrupted by people in the crowd holding up signs that welfare reform increased poverty and the crime bill destroyed minority communities.

Amadio Talks To BCR On What It’s Like Working With New Commissioners Egley & Camp

So, just how well does Beaver County Commissioner Tony Amadio get along with the new Republican majority commissioners Sandie Egley and Dan Camp? During today’s Ask the Commissioners segment on Beaver County Radio with Mike Romigh, Amadio talked about his relationship with the two board members, saying they don’t hate each other, but things could definitely be better. He compared his role as a minority commissioner to that of a passenger on a bus, saying the driver of the bus is Egley, the commissioners chairwoman, and that he is sometimes left out of the decision-making process. He says the board needs to do a better job of working together to solve the county’s problem.

Road Closing in Ambridge

Ambridge borough manager Joe Kauer has announced that 9th Street between Merchant Street and Melrose Ave. will be closed from now until Monday, April 11th for road work. According to Beaver County Radio news correspondent Sandy Giordano, access to the credit union drive-thru is to be re-established today. Motorists will exit through the lower alley until Monday.

After Hillary Clinton’s campaign swing across Pennsylvania yesterday, former President Bill Clinton is visiting the state today to campaign for his wife. Clinton will make stops in three cities — starting in Philadelphia before he moves on to Scranton and later in the day in Erie.

Gov. Wolf Threatens To Veto New Abortion Measure

A proposal to put new restrictions on abortion in the state appears headed to a final House vote next week after lawmakers voted down a Democrat-led effort to delay the proposal for two months. The measure would prohibit elective abortions after 20 weeks, four weeks earlier than current law. Governor Tom Wolf has already threatened a veto of the measure.
