The Beaver County Commissioners today unanimously approved a 220-million, 619 thousand, 487 dollar budget for 2017 with a three point eight mill tax increase. The tax increase breaks down to 25 mills for real estate and 1 mill for debt service. The 26 mills translates into about 25 dollars per mill for the average tax player. The 2017 budget is balanced. Unlike last year, there is no deficit carryover to be confronted with further cuts as the budget year progresses. Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti was at the courthouse this morning for the announcement. He asked commissioners chairman Sandie Egley what she thought about the tax increase. Egley said it’s not what they wanted but it’s necessary. The budget is available at the commissioners office for taxpayer review until Decmeber 28th when the commissioners will meet to give final approval.

Police To Serve Breakfast And Distribute Presents To Kids In Community Of Aliquippa
PA STATE Police Trooper ,Equality and Inclusion Officer First Class from Troop B Robin Mungo , and Police Chief Barry Kramer , Center Township and Shon Owens , director of the men’s intutive of Franklin Center,, assisted by Tina Price Genes and the Police and Community Coalition of Beaver County teamed up for Saturday’s Breakfast with Santa in Aliquippa. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano reports that Valerie McKelvy, director of Franklin Center said the y held several meetings and breakfast will be served by the law enforcement officers. They will distributing the gifts to the children. She said, “This is just the beginning of a new improved relationship with the community and the police in the valley. Auto Zone , Walmart, and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation supplied backpacks for the event. Mrs. McKelvy said Human Service Agencies will also be on hand for those in need of help. For the first time in school history, the Beaver Falls Tigers were playing in the PIAA football playoffs.
And now for the first time in school history, the Tigers will be playing for gold in Hershey.
The #1-ranked Tigers defeated the Central (Martinsburg, PA) Scarlet Dragons by a score of 14-7. The defensive battle saw Central score on its first drive before BF stopped the Scarlet Dragons on all subsequent drives. The Tigers scored their two touchdowns early in the third and fourth quarters, and held off a late rally in the final two minutes by Central.

The Scarlet Dragons end their season at 12-2, while the Tigers will play Middletown (14-0) in the PIAA Class 3A Championship at Hersheypark Stadium, on December 10 @ 3:30pm.

Central Valley School Board Holds Its Annual Re-Organizational Meeting
Central Valley School Board held its annual reorganization last night. According to Beaver County Radio Correspondent Sandy Giordano, Tom Mowad was re-appointed president, vice president Dennis Bloom, Tom King, treasurer. Other board members include: Dave Ambrose, Joseph O’Neill, Dante Ross, Frank Shuter, and Dr. Nick Unis. Work sessions are the second Wedneday of the month at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria, regular meetings are the third Thursday at 7 p.m.
One Dead After Crash In Cranberry Township
One person was killed today in an early-morning accident in Cranberry Township.The crash in the 22-hundred block of Powell Road was reported shortly after 2 a.m. One vehicle was involved. Police say it crashed through a guard rail and went over an embankment. The road reopened at about 6 a.m. No further details were released.
Elderly Driver Crashes Into Beaver Flower Shop
An elderly driver who was trying to back up his car lost control, careened across the street and crashed into a Beaver borough flower shop. Police say the man had just finished breakfast with friends. He started to back up his vehicle when he hit the gas, crossing both lanes of Third Street. The car went 15 feet over a curb, through a heavily-traveled sidewalk and smashed into Snyder’s Flowers. Amazingly, no one was hurt. The doorway to the store has been temporarily fixed. The business is still open.

Child Predator Internet Sting Nabs Beaver County Man
Eight people – including a Beaver County man – are facing charges following a child predator Internet sting. The arrests were announced yesterday as part of Operation e-Traffic. Officials say undercover agents pretended to be children and arranged sexual encounters with adults. Attorney General Bruce Beemer warned parents that, “These arrests should serve as a reminder that child predators are increasingly turning to the internet to seek out children in our communities.”
Issue of Friendship Ridge Sale Still Unsettled, Beaver County Solicitor Says
Beaver County solicitor Andrea Cantelmi says she has spoken to Comprehensive Healthcare management and Comprehensive Healthcare management Comprehensive is still reviewing the letter sent by the county, outlining a one-point–four-million-dollar amount due by Comprehensive to settle the sale of Friendship Ridge. That’s according to Beaver County’s Greg Benedetti, who says the solicitor had not timetable as to when Comprehensive Healthcare will respond. The commissioners had no comment on the matter, referring the question to the solicitor.
Aliquippa City Council Holds Its Monthly Work Session
Aliquippa City Council met last night for its monthly work session and opened for prayer and a moment of silence. Dimantae Bronaugh 19, Aliquippa football star lost his battle with leukemia Tuesday night. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, Mayor Dwan Walker said he has been asked to speak at the funeral. He will issue a proclamation to the family. Police Chief Don Couch announced that Frank “Champ” Cangiano passed away Tuesday. Cangiano was a school crossing guard for 18 yrs. He was 86 years old. Code enforcement officer Mike Demcak announced that tentative approval from attorneys for the planning and zoning boards for a new Burger King was given. He said they are awaiting Penn DOT’s approval.. The site is at 2624 Brodhead Rd. Applicants for the Aliquippa Redevelopment Authority should submit a resume to City Administrator Sam Gill at the city building. Mr. Gill announced that he will attend a meeting with the county council of governments today concerning blighted and distressed areas in the county. Mayor Walker said the city needs help from the state and federal government s so the city can see more black, not red on their budgets. He said, they need to step up and help us.” Mayor Walker said that Christmas banners used in prior years have to be replaced. The banners will be purchased through Street Decor, Inc. for $1,804. Tonight is LIGHT UP NIGHT IN THE CITY AT 6 p.m. Residents are advised to meet at the city building and proceed to the front of the police station. Following the lighting of the tree, refreshments will be served at the city building. A boys and girls bike, donated by the police department will be raffled off. Children must put their name on a ticket for the drawing. Santa will visit all neighborhoods on Wednesday, December 14 beginning at 5 p.m. in West Aliquippa, Fire Chief Dave Foringer announced.
