Robert Jones of the Beaver Valley NAACP tells Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano that a job fair will be held tonight at Rochester High School auditorium from 6-8 p.m. in Rochester. The job fair is open to both men and women , and it will be attended by representatives from CCBC, Robert Morris, Penn State, Career Link JTPA, Beaver Valley FOP representatives from.,trade unions, and apprenticeships will also be on hand. The event is being held to encourage Beaver County residents to apply since there will be jobs available with the Shell Cracker plant that is being built in Potter Township.

Another Beaver County School District Heads Back To School
Students in another Beaver County school district headed back to the classrooms today. Beaver County Radio welcomes back the South Side Area School District, along with two neighborhood districts from Allegheny County: The Cornell School District and the West Allegheny school district started classes today as well.
Elderly Woman Loses Dog, 3 Cats In Lawrence Co. Fire
An elderly woman escaped her burning Lawrence County home this morning, but lost her pets. The fire broke out around 10 a.m. on Walnut Tree Lane in Slippery Rock Township. The woman lives in the house alone and heard a crackling noise. She was able to escape uninjured. One dog and three cats perished in the fire. The woman had lived in the home for 50 years. The residence was a complete loss.
Monaca Pavilion Project Begins Today
Work on a 560-thousand-dollar pavilion project is expected to begin this week…at John A. Antoline Memorial Park in Monaca. The project will include restrooms and a concession stand. About half of the project will be covered by state money. The project could be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
Pedestrian Struck, Killed On State Route 18 In Lawrence County
Police say a driver who struck and killed a pedestrian late Friday in Lawrence County thought he had hit a deer. 35-year-old Bruce Willis Jr. of Neshannock Township, was killed in the crash on State Route 18 near Chapin Road. The driver told police that he was heading south just before midnight when his windshield shattered. After turning around, the driver found Willis lying on the roadway. The driver then had a passing motorist call 911. Southbound SR 19 was shut down for approximately three hours while emergency crews were at the scene. Neshannock Township police said the crash remains under investigation.

Two People Injured In Motorcycle Accident In Chippewa Township
An accident involving a vehicle and a motorcycle occurred at 376 and Route 51 northbound in Chippewa Twp. at approximately 12:40 p.m., Chief Robert Berchtold tells Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giodano and newsman Pat Septak that the motorcycle was travelling behind a vehicle when it came to a sudden stop. The cyclist laid the bike down, and a male and female sustained injuries. The female was lifeflighted to a Pittsburgh hospital, and the male was taken by Medic Rescue to Heritage Valley, Beaver. No other details were available.
Beaver County Communities Express Concern About Future Of Federal HUD Funding
Communities throughout Beaver county that received Federal HUD dollars for Main Street development through Town Center Associates expressed concern at last night’s commissioners meeting about the future of the funding. Chad Whelpy represents the Beaver Business District Authority. While some of the funding has been cut from the program, Whelpy said participants are unsure about how the monies will be allocated. The Commissioners say there will be a meeting concerning the issue on Monday.
Beaver County Commissioners Searching For Alternative Site For Homeless Shelter
Beaver County Commissioner Sandi Egley announced at last night’s meeting that the commissioners have been working with city officials in Beaver Falls to find an alternative site for the Crossroads Homeless Shelter on 11th Street and 4th Avenue. The Shelter is located in a residential area and the city recently announced they would begin enforcing the zoning ordinance.
Aliquippa House Fire Under Investigation
Aliquippa Fire Captain Dave Childs said a fire on Todd St. in the city’s Plan 11 yesterday afternoon may have started in an upstairs bedroom. Childs tells Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano that the bedroom sustained the heaviest fire damage, and a lot of water damage resulted in the home’s kitchen. Fire departments from Ambridge,, Center, and Hopewell assisted.
