Missing Kayaker likely found

The body of a white female in a bathing suit was pulled from the Ohio River just before 5 p.m. Sunday, according to Beaver County officials. The body was found near the Leetsdale boat launch next to a barge on the Aliquippa side of the river, according to Beaver County Coroner David Gabauer

The family of a 25-year-old Coraopolis woman who was swept over a dam nine days ago while kayaking said they are “99.5 percent sure” it is likely their loved one.

RUNAWAY PEACOCK on the Run

GOVERNOR WOLF VISITS ALIQUIPPA

Aliquippa Mayor Dwan Walker met Governor Tom Wolf at Aliquippa’s Versatex plant on Thursday as part of his “Jobs that Pay” tour.  Versatex employs about 100 workers.  Walker said,”We can show that our riverfronts in Aliquippa are viable for business and manufacturing.”

RISE IN BEAVER COUNTY OVERDOSE DEATHS

According to Beaver County Coroner’s office, there have been 29 overdose deaths during the first 3 months of this year. BC had 102 OD deaths in 2016:
with the leading cause of fatal overdoses due to the synthetic opioid fentanyl

ALL TURNPIKE LANES OPEN THIS WEEKEND

Memorial Day is upon us and the PA Turnpike is expecting more than 2 Million vehicles so all lanes will be open.  Crews will be suspending maintenance work between 5AM Friday and 11PM Tuesday.  Busiest times will likely be Friday afternoon and Monday evening.

PENNDOT gets audited

A sweeping audit of PENNDOT will be launched soon according to Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale.   “We want to make sure they’re doing everything they can to minimize taxpayer impact.”   The audit will see whether problems identified in another audit have been addressed and will include handling of personal driver information.

Beaver County Population decreases

According to the US Census Bureau’s report released Thursday, out of 54 Beaver County communities, only 5 have seen any growth in their population.  Since 2010, the county’s population has dropped by nearly 2%.

Possible buyer for Monaca Municipal Building

MONACA — Sheetz has expressed interest in buying the Monaca municipal building on Pennsylvania Avenue and two other nearby properties in an effort to build a gas station there.
On April 25, council approved the bid request to accept proposals for the building.
A new location for the borough offices has not yet been finalized.
