Beaver County Deputy Treasurer Jim Frederick Comes To Connie Javens’ Defense

BEAVER COUNTY DEPUTY TREASURER JIM FREDERICK IS DEFENDING TREASURER CONNIE JAVENS…AGAINST ACCUSATIONS MADE IN PUBLISHED REPORTS THAT THE TREASURER’S OFFICE VIOLATED COUNTY POLICIES WHEN IT SPENT NEARLY SIX-THOUSAND DOLLARS ON ENVELOPES USED TO MAIL OUT TAX BILLS. THE ENVELOPES WERE PURCHASED FROM THE HENDERSON PRINTING COMPANY IN ROCHESTER. COUNTY PURCHASING POLICY STATES THAT THREE PRICE QUOTES MUST BE OPTAINED FOR ANY ITEMS PURCHASED ABOVE $750. BUT BEAVER COUNTY RADIO NEWS HAS OBTAINED A COPY OF A LETTER WRITTEN BY FREDERICK TO COUNTY PURCHASING DIRECTOR WAYNE SOUFFRANT, EXPLAINING THAT IF THE ENVELOPES HAD NOT BEEN ORDERED MONTHS PRIOR, THE TREASURER’S OFFICE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEND OUT THE TAX NOTICES FOR 2017 ON A TIMELY BASIS. FREDERICK ALSO NOTED IN THE LETTER, THAT WHENEVER ANOTHER VENDOR WAS SELECTED IN THE PAST, THE ENVELOPES WERE NOT OF THE QUALITY OR STYLE DESIGNED TO GO THROUGH THEIR FOLDING MACHINE WITHOUT INCIDENT AND CONTANT BREAKDOWNS. FREDERICK SAYS THAT THE TREASURER’S OFFICE WOULD SEEK BIDS ON FURTHER ENVELOPE ORDERS IN THE FUTURE…BUT THAT IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE TO DO.

The 31st Annual Rotary Auction Is Live Tomorrow, April 22 on WBVP/WMBA

Beaver County Radio listeners tune in to 1230 WBVP or 1460 WMBA to be a part of the 31st Annual Rotary Auction taking place from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM this Saturday, April 22, 2017.

WBVP and WMBA are the only stations airing the Auction, which is being broadcast live from the Eaton Corporation in Beaver.  Last year, listeners spent over $17,000 on the merchandise being auctioned that day!  Participants must listen to the radio to bid, so get yours tuned to 1230 or 1460!

Special Edition of Saturday Sports Slam on Teleforum Friday April 21, 2017

Tomorrow Teleforum with Frank Sparks is going to be a busy place on Beaver County Radio . To start the show at 9:10 a.m. with Huntington Business Spotlight. This month the Spotlight will be on the Tull Family Theater and Carolina Pais-Barreto Beyers the Executive Director of the Theater will be our guest. Steve Carpenter, Senior Vice President, Retail Area Manager at Huntington Bank will also be in studio.

The Tull Family Theater is a film-based arts organization created to strengthen cultural, educational and entertainment experiences in the region northwest of Pittsburgh. The theater is located at 418 Walnut St, Sewickley, PA 15143.

At 10:10 Kevin Martin, Executive Director of Peace Action will be Frank’s guest via a telephone interview to talk about the Peace Not War Seminar this Saturday April 22, 2017 at CCBC starting at 1 p.m.

In the Eleven o’clock Hour There will be a special one hour presentation of the Saturday Sports Slam with Frank Sparks and Greg Benedetti.  The Show will be not be broadcast in it’s normal time slot on Saturday morning due to the Rotary Radio Auction being broadcast from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m..

Air Quality Still Bad In Beaver County, Report Says

The air in Beaver County is among the worst in the region, according to a newly released report. The American Lung Association on Wednesday released its annual report that analyzes air quality across the country. Beaver County received an F grade for the level of ozone smog, alongside Allegheny and Washington counties. Lawrence County received an C grade, . Mercer County received a D grade. According to the report, the Pittsburgh metropolitan area covering 12 southwestern Pennsylvania counties, ranks as eighth worst in year-round particle pollution out of 184 areas studied.

Beaver Valley Expressway (Toll 376) Will Convert To Cashless Tolling On April 30

The PA Turnpike Commission (PTC) announced today that the technology and systems for the Cashless Tolling pilot project on the Beaver Valley Expressway (Toll 376) in Beaver and Lawrence counties has cleared all testing.  A state-of-the art, cashless-tolling system will be launched at that location on April 30 as planned. This is Turnpike CEO Mark Compton. Beaver County Radio Greets Job Seekers at CCBC

Many job seekers crowd around the Pennsylvania State Police recruiter at the CCBC Job Fair on April 19, 2017.

(Center Township, PA) Hundreds of prospective future employees visited the CBC golden dome to talk with dozens of employers on hand Wednesday Afternoon.  WBVP and WMBA  did a live broadcast at the event and talked with many potential recruits about careers in the radio industry.  Frank Sparks hosted the popular “Teleforum” talk show live on site from 10 until noon.

2017 Rochester Chamber Chili Cook Off

Wednesday night, April 19, 2017 was the annual Rochester Chamber of Commerce Annual Chili Cook off. WBVP and WMBA staff entered the Competition with many other local competitors. WBVP and WMBA entered Grandma Billie’s Chili that was a recipe from Carolyn Karas’ mother who passed away in 2001. The recipe is upward of 100 years old. Check out pictures of all the fun below.

Beaver County Radio will be serving up “Grandma Billie’s Chili” at the Rochester Chamber of Commerce’s 8th Annual Chili Cook Off.  The recipe is brought to us by our very own Frank Sparks’ mother in-law Carolyn Karas and family. Grandma Billie Hollein passed in 2001 and her recipe of over 75 years lives on.

Be sure to stop by the Brady’s Run Park Lodge in Brighton Township starting at 5:00 PM to sample some of the best chilis in the county.  After you try some of our “Grandma Billie’s Chili” you can vote for it as the Fan Favorite!  Along with all of the fabulous chilis, there will be fries, chicken wings, beer and other beverages being served.
