LAWRENCE COUNTY MAN KILLED
West Pittsburg resident John Fields was pronounced dead at the scene following a crash early Saturday morning on Interstate 376. While traveling at a high rate of speed he collided with a concrete barrier near the west toll gate of the PA turnpike in North Beaver Township. Police said Fields was not wearing a seat belt.
COUPLE apprehended
A couple believed to have been involved in multiple burglaries, car thefts and other crimes made their way to Ohio. According to police, during an armed robbery in Lawrence County, Tyler Amos of Cochranton and Brandy Rombold of Ellwood City beat a 60 year old victim and attempted to shoot him. An 85 year old family member arrived and Amos & Rombold kicked and beat him with a gun & baseball bat. After stealing multiple vehicles they were discovered in Cadiz Ohio where Rombold was taken into custody. Amos was apprehended after a brief search in nearby woods. A third person, a man, is believed to have been involved in the crime spree.
School districts favor tax increases for 2017-18
Most School districts in the area reported that they decided to raise property taxes or cut spending in response to rising state-mandated expenses.
Ambridge Area, Blackhawk and South Side Area school districts were the only ones in the county to pass budgets for the 2017-18 school year that do not include a tax hike. Although taxes won’t increase in Ambridge or Blackhawk, both boards balanced the budgets by drawing funds from district savings accounts.
PA House Budget
The Pennsylvania Senate approved the House budget on Friday even though some of The Republican state senators representing southwest Pennsylvania were not exactly enthusiastic about the deal.
“This is the best product we can put together that fills the needs of Pennsylvanians,” said state Sen. Pat Stefano, of Fayette County. “Is it the best? No, by far. It is the best we can get with this administration.”
State Sen. Elder Vogel of New Sewickley Township, said in a statement that the budget is almost $650 million less than the one proposed by Gov. Tom Wolf and it controls state spending.
New Sewickley Twp. native to be honored at War on Terror Memorial
The legacy of Army Sgt. Joshua J. Rimer, a New Sewickley Township native who was killed July 22, 2009 when his convoy escort vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan, won’t be forgotten.
At 11 a.m. Tuesday, Rimer will be honored at the War on Terror Memorial at America’s Cemetery in Hermitage, Mercer County.

Beaver County Radio WBVP and WMBA in Cooperation with Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center gave away two four packs of tickets to the River City Brass Concert being held tomorrow night, July 1, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. on the Main Stage Theater at Lincoln Park. The theme of the performance is an American Salute . Listeners were registered by answering trivia questions on Thursday June 29 and Friday June 30, 2017. Freedom Grad has book published
Freedom High School graduate and author Leea Baltes announced that her new book, “Good Night Wishes”, a children’s book, is published as an e-book on Amazon. It’s available today.
Hardbacks and paperback versions will be available in book stores later today, Baltes said.
Baltes lives in Maryland and the book was illustrated by her 10 year old granddaughter.
Leeah is one of 9 children and a 1991 Freedom High School graduate. Her Mother, Thelma Lewis, lives in East Rochester.
Storm Damage
Tree limbs feel onto Duquesne Light power lines in Vanport Township this morning, causing a power outage,
according to a company spokesperson. The spokesman said the incident occurred just before 8 A.M. This is the second occurrence this week in the Township,causing a power outage there. Beaver County Radio Correspondent Sandy Giordano has more.
