A man has been sentenced to one year in jail and two years on house arrest after pleading no contest in the hit-and-run death of a man in Industry borough. The Beaver County Times reports that 63-year-old William Aeschbacher entered the plea to a felony charge of causing an accident involving death and two summary offenses. Police in Beaver County said 25-year-old Brandon Bixler was struck early on Nov. 27 in Industry. Authorities believe he was walking home from a bar. Investigators said the defendant initially said he may have struck a tree but later said he turned to drive through the area again after the accident and realized that he had hit a person. Defense attorney Stephen Colafella said his client couldn’t see the victim lying in the road.
(Center Township, PA) On a gorgeous Friday morning, the weather was not the only thing people were in awe of at the Center Township based Beaver County Transit Authority (BCTA) Expressway Travel Center. Officials from BCTA held a celebration marking two special occasions. One celebrating the arrival of new clean fuel technology to its fleet, and the other honoring a long time board member. Beaver County Commissioners Dan Camp and Tony Amadio, State Representative Jim Marshall, along with Toby Fauver from Pendot, and with Master Of Ceremonies Mike Rubino, Executive Director of the United Way Of Beaver County, all joined the honored guests and featured speakers on stage to participate in the event.

Recently, a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station was completed on the side parking lot of the BCTA maintenance garage. In addition, the three brand new CNG fueled buses arrived to the BCTA garage and were shined up and ready for inspection for Friday morning’s festivities. BCTA Executive Director Mary Jo Morandini commented about the dawning of the natural gas fueled fleet:
The goal, according to Morandini, is to replace and upgrade the company’s fleet of buses over time as she further explained:

Richard (Dick) Ober
The Beaver County Transit Authority was formed in 1980, and amazingly enough, the first board member to be appointed by the Beaver County Commissioners at the time is still serving on their board of directors today. In addition to all the hoopla surrounding the advancement into CNG fueled buses, Richard (Dick) Ober was recognized at the program as well for his dedication and service to the BCTA board of directors. Art Guzzetti from the American Public Transportation Association was on hand Friday to present Ober with their 2017″ Outstanding Public Transportation Board Member”. Guzzetti offered this comment regarding the award:

Beaver County Radio did a broadcast live from Party with a Purpose to benefit the Corner Stone of Beaver County. Frank Sparks host of Teleforum and Ed “the master” Hermick were live on Beaver County Radio from 7 to 9 p.m. . The event highlighted three of Beaver Counties talented bands. Bobby Thompson and the Groove led off the show followed by Mojo Dia and the Fireball Horns. The headline group of the night the Hoot Owls featured Cornerstone Executive Director Marie Timpano on drums. The Rochester Smokehouse donated dinner and the Rochester VFW the facility. (Beaver Falls, PA) Even though the weather was not very accommodating, Beaver Falls showed how resilient the city can be on Saturday as many people and vendors, braved the elements and attended the Beaver Falls Arts Fest.

The Beaver Falls Tigers came out moving the ball. It looked like they were going to take the first lead of the game, but fell short. It was all Beaver for the rest of the game. Beaver Falls eventually scored, but missed the extra point. The Beaver Bobcats not only needed a win, but some help from other teams to secure a wild card playoff entree, which is exactly what happened. The players of the game were Gino Mavero for Beaver and Kani Jones- Thomas for Beaver Falls. The final score was Beaver-68 Beaver Falls-6. Tonight’s game on WMBA was between Rochester and Western beaver. Rochester had put up 8 points with a touchdown and two point conversion in the first half leaving the score 8 to 0 Rochester. Immediately after the third quarter started Rochester got another touchdown and then missed the p.a.t. making the v score 14 to 0. Late in the third Rochester had a bad snap which caused a fumble that Western Beaver recovered and was able to put up 7 making it 14 to 7 Rochester. With 11:55 left in the fourth the Rams were able to drive in for another touchdown bringing the score to 20 to 7. Rochester then again scored a few minutes later and got a two point conversion to bring the final score to Rochester 28 and Western Beaver 7.
