Witness testimony will continue this morning in a Beaver County murder trial. 27-year-old Edward Baker Jr. has been charged with the killing of his former girlfriend, 30-year-old Addaleigh Huzyak last year in Beaver. Baker is expected to testify on his own behalf.

Beaver County Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Hosts Parents and Student Forum at CCBC
Community College of Beaver County hosted the Beaver County Energy and Advanced. Manufacturing Partnership 2017 Spring Parent & Student Forum last night at the college’s dome, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Special guest at the event was Tyraine Ragsdale a.k.a. “Grand Hank” Productions, Inc. and a multimedia company in 1989., he’s Master Scientist and television personality who is a former research chemist for Johnson & Johnson. Ragsdale has a profound impact on STEM education and has impacted more than 10 million students, parents, and teachers across the world. His accomplishments are many, currently, his project is renovating and constructing as new Grand Hank STEM Center for Inner City youth adjacent to LaSalle University in Philadelphia . Grsand Hsnk hopes to cultivate more scientifically literate students and return the United States as #! in STEM. Over 30 exhibitors from manufacturing and trade unions were on hand., over 300 students and parents attended. A panel discussion with Laura DelVecchio, BCC&TC assistant director as l moderator was held. Panelists were Tinisi Cooper, NOVA Chemical, Nick Kappas, Steamfitters Local #449, Kelly Macie, Rolls Royce Engineering Services, Jacklyn Wise, BASF . The partnership is planning a similar event in November 2017 for middle school students in November 2017
Hopewell School Board Appoints A New Member
Beaver County juvenile public defender and lawyer George Patterson was appointed to a vacancy on the Hopewell School Board last night, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Patterson is replacing Lesia Dobo who resigned recently Solicitor John Salopek said Patterson will be sworn in a day or so. Students from Independence Elementary School came to the board and talked about their recent STEM event , Dr. Jacie Maslyk, assistant superintendent ssid the PTA put together the event earlier this month. Second grade teacher Mrs. Ronnie Albanese applauded them for their efforts. The students, within the program extracted DNA from a strawberry.
Brault and others optioned to Triple A today
Left-hander Steven Brault was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on today , taking him out of the race for the final open spot in the Pirates’ starting rotation.
Infielder Gift Ngoepe also was sent to Indy. Right-hander Josh Lindblom and infielder Jason Rogers were reassigned to minor league camp.
The optioning of Brault assures the Pirates will not have a left hand pitcher in the starting rotation to start the season this year barring any trades before opening day.
North Sewickley Township Gets Relief For Deteriorating Bridge Problem
PennDOT is spending millions of dollars rehabilitating bridges throughout the state. According to Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti, immediate impact in this area is the small Chapel Drive bridge in North Sewickley Township. Jeff Rossi of Walsh Construction tells Greg that work will begin after school lets out in June. Another bridge on Wise’s Grove Road will be replaced next year at this time.
Hopewell Township Commissioners Hold Meeting
Hopewell Township Commissioners held their monthly meeting last night and Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano was there. Police Sgt. Jill Banovsky was named Police Officer of the Year for 2016 by her fellow officers, according to Twp. Police Chief Brian Uhrmacher.. She was promoted to the rank in July, the first promotion to sergeant in 20 years., and the also the first female to be promoted as sergeant. Twp. Manager Norm Kraus, Jr. thanked the commissioners and staff for all their support and while he was absent, picking up the manager’s “boot straps.”. His wife Margaret died recently after battling cancer. The township depository opens on Saturday, photo id’s are $20 each for residents , senior citizens have to have their photos taken, but there is no charge for them to us the depository. Saturday, April 8 is the annual Spring Fest and Eggstravaganza at Hopewell Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Easter egg hunt is for children 18 months to 12 years old.. Children under 154 must be accompanied by an adult.
Opening Statements Set To Begin Today In Beaver County Murder Trial
Opening statements will begin this morning in the trial of a New Brighton man accused of raping and killing his former girlfriend last spring. 27-year-old Edward Baker Jr. is charged in the death of 30-year-old Addaleigh Huzyak of Beaver. A jury of 12 and two alternates was selected for the trial yesterday. Witness testimony will follow opening statements today. Beaver County president judge John McBride is presiding over the trial.
7-Year-Old Girl Found Unresponsive in Shenango Township, Lawrence County
In Lawrence County…A 7-year-old girl was found unresponsive and tangled in a backyard playset in Shenango Township. The girl was already freed when police, fire and emergency crews arrived on the scene, but she was not alert. Police tell us emergency personnel resuscitated the girl and got her breathing again after she began choking on a piece of equipment. The girl was crying, but not speaking and was flown to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Investigators have not released an update on her condition.

Father Bill Schwartz, The Pirates Padre, from St. Monica Church in Chippewa stopped by Teleforum on Monday morning March 27,2017 to promote Jason Grilli’s book Just My Game that he is selling . Jason Grilli hand signed each copy . Proceeds from the book go to Pirates Charities, St. Monica Catholic Academy, and also the Love Your Neighbor project . Father Bill discussed his special relationship with “Grill Cheese” and his family as well as his realationship with other players, coaches, and front office personnel . He explained how baseball is just a small portion of their lives and that he encourages spiritual growth and faith in the Lord. Father Bill and host Frank Sparks talked about Father Bill’s travels from a young boy on Mt. Washington playing baseball to how he arrived at St. Monica Parish in Chippewa. Father Bill will be selling Just My Game at the Fish Fry’s on Friday’s throughout the remainder of Lent at St. Monica Church which is located at 116 Thorndale Drive in Beaver Falls(Chippewa). Newly Named Interim Solicitor Resigns Following Questions Regarding Legality
Attorney John McCreary – the newly named Beaver County interim solicitor – has resigned from his position…before he even had the chance to officially begin his new job. Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti reports that McCreary, who was appointed Friday by commissioners Sandie Egley and Tony Amadio to serve as the county’s top attorney until a new chief county solicitor is found, resigned over questions raised regarding the legality of his hiring. All three commissioners are currently out of town. They will be back in the courthouse on Wednesday.
