THE BEAVER COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY IS IN THE PROCESS OF ELIMINATING SOME BUS STOPS ON SOME OF ITS ROUTES. BCTA GENERAL MANAGER MARY JO MORANDINI TELLS BEAVER COUNTY RADIO NEWSMAN PAT SEPTAK THAT THE REASON FOR THE CHANGES IS TO CUT DOWN ON TRAFFIC CONGESTION ON THE COUNTY’S ROADWAYS. SHE SAYS THEY’RE ALREADY STARTED IN BEAVER FALLS AND NEXT ON THE LIST IS ALONG 3RD AVENUE IN NEW BRIGHTON….
STARTING ON MONDAY, JULY 17TH, BCTA WILL ELIMINATE STOPS ALONG 3RD AVENUE AT 8TH STREET SOUTHBOUND AND 15TH STREET NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND…STILL LEAVING STOPS AT 6TH, 9TH, 10TH, 12TH AND 16TH STREETS IN PLACE. EVENTUALLY, SHE SAYS CHANGES WILL BE MADE COUNTYWIDE.
All three Beaver County Commissioners appeared on the “Ask The Commissioners” segment during Teleforum with Frank Sparks this morning. Tony Amadio and Dan Camp were here along with board chairwoman Sandie Egley. The big topic this morning was yesterday’s announcement that all three commissioners will be going to the nation’s Capital next week. This morning they talked about the conference they’ll be attending and why they have accepted the Trump administration’s invitation to tour the White House…
Frank Sparks asked the commissioners what it is they are looking forward to the most during their trip to D.C….
Next week’s commissioners work session and the weekly commissioner’s meeting have been canceled due to the conference.
Executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford announced the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed defenseman Justin Schultz to a three-year contract.
The deal runs through the 2019-20 campaign, and it carries an average annual value of $5.5 million.

Breaking News….The Beaver County Commissioners are going to be out of town next week…and for a good reason. Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti explains…
According to a 218-page financial report released by Beaver County Controller David Rossi’s office, the county’s financial position improved in 2016.
The document provides a look at actual — as opposed to budgeted — figures for the year.
Last week, county Financial Administrator Ricardo Luckow told the commissioners the report showed the county ended 2016 with an unassigned general-fund balance of about $230,000 — a drastic improvement from 2015, when that balance was negative $3.8 million.
Former Ambridge Area School District Superintendent Cynthia Zurchin alleges she was forced to resign her position after a “pattern of retaliation and creation of a hostile work environment” caused her to develop, among other health issues, “strokelike symptoms,” according to a federal complaint filed June 23.
The complaint names the school district, a number of school board members and former Assistant Superintendent Megan Mealie. The lawsuit alleges Zurchin was forced out of her position after she received nine threats of physical violence that “put her in fear for her personal safety.”
The district strongly denies these allegations and looks forward to its opportunity to correct the record.”
