Holiday Shopping Season Officially Kicks Off Today

The holiday shopping season officially kicks off today and shoppers may find some surprises at the stores. Retailers are counting on a lift from a better economy…but they are also looking for ways to pick up sales from popular internet giants such as Amazon.com. Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst at the market research firm NPD Group in New York says retailers are in survival mode. Cohen says it’s all about stealing each other’s market share.

Texas Congressman In Sex Tift

The Washington Post reports that U.S. Congressman Joe Barton of Texas told a woman that he would complain to Capitol Police if sexually explicit photos of him from their relationship were publicly exposed. The Post report came after the 68 year old Republican apologized for a nude photo of him that circulated on social media.

High School Football Players Arrested For Rape

In West York, three high school football players have been charged with raping a 14 year old girl at gunpoint after she left a town fair. The York Daily Record reports the 16 year old boys from the Central York High School football team are being charged as adults. West York police say two of the boys were picked up without incident and the third arranged to surrender.

State Supreme Court Rules Against Corbett

Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court says it’s not enough for governors to send out a news release when they are vetoing a bill during legislative adjournment…they also have to issue a formal public notice. The justices ruled yesterday that partial vetoes of appropriations and fiscal code amendment bills by Governor Tom Corbett in 2014 were not valid. The court said the vetoes failed because Corbett did not specify that he had filed and bills and his objections in the secretary of state’s office.

28th Annual Beaver County Festival Trees Light-Up Celebration!

The 28th Anniversary of the Beaver County Festival of Trees Light up Celebration was spectacular!  With 32 trees and 17 wreaths, the Lodge was a beautiful site.  The Festival of Trees is open November 23-26, and December 1 – 3.  and The Christmas Charity Auction will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.
