Officials say two people are recovering after reportedly being struck by lightning in Center Township. Authorities were called to the 100-block of Kennedy Drive last night. Family members said they initially called 911 after they thought a tree was struck.
A teen is dead after drowning during a Memorial Day swim in the Connoquenessing Creek. Investigators say they pulled two 17-year-olds from the creek near Pittsburgh Circle in Ellwood City Monday afternoon, but could not find a third. Lawrence County officials identified the third 17-year-old as Bruce Thomas of New Castle.

A Beaver County high school senior is upset this morning that she won’t be allowed to wear a U.S. army sash for her high school graduation. Toni Kress is graduating from Central Valley on June 1, and she’s already signed enlistment papers to join the Army. But the school won’t let her wear an Army sash. Administrators told her it’s because it doesn’t match the school colors. The school has not yet issued any public comment on the issue.
