Beaver County Budget Director Ricardo Luckow told commissioners today that they face a 10-million-dollar budget deficit for 2017. According to Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti, Luckow says all departments have submitted their budgets for next year and most were not able to cut the budget to 12 percent, as recommended. A meeting to formally adopt a budget for next year is scheduled for December 28th.

The Beaver County Recorder of Deeds office is warning local residents about a group that is targeting senior citizens. A Harrisburg-based company – Local Records Office – is selling people their own deeds for 89 dollars, when in reality, you can get it locally online for free! Jan Beall – Recorder of Deeds – appeared on Teleforum this morning, explaning to Mike Romigh what it’s all about. She says it’s technically not a scam because what they’re doing is actually legal. 3-year Sentence For Tax Collector That Stole From Ambridge Schools, Baden
A former policeman who stole more than $1 million from the Ambridge Area School District… and $46,000 from the borough of Baden…. is headed to federal prison for a little over three years. U.S. District Judge Arthur Schwab imposed a 37-month term Tuesday on 57-year-old Keith Kristek who had been the acting tax collector for the Ambridge district and the borough where he had once been a police officer and constable. The judge also ordered him to pay more than a million dollars in restitution, although coming up with the money will be difficult because federal prosecutors say he gambled most of it away at casinos.

Two Officers Injured Responding To Domestic Dispute In Ambridge
Two police officers were treated and released from Heritage Valley Beaver after being injured while responding to a dispute in Ambridge late last night. Police were called to Maplewood Avenue where they found Chelsee Cafrelli involved in a heated argument with her boyfriend. Also allegedly involved in the dispute were Cafrelli’s brother, Richard Cafrelli, Jr., and his wife Tracey Cafrelli. Investigators said they were unsuccessful in separating the four. Police say they were jumping on the police officers’ back…and eventually had to be tased and pepper-sprayed. Police say Richard Cafrelli, Jr. also had a gun on him and attempted to reach for it during his arrest. All three are facing charges. Investigators say alcohol was a major factor in the situation.
Former Constable Facing Sentencing For Stealing Money He Collected For Baden Tax Collector, Wife
A former constable who acknowledged gambling away more than $1 million he stole while working as an unpaid deputy for his tax collector wife faces sentencing by a federal judge in Pittsburgh. Keith Kristek pleaded guilty in June and acknowledged stealing the money he collected for his wife, Cynthia Kristek. She resigned as tax collector in Baden after an audit turned up the missing money last year.

Ambridge Mother Facing Attempted Homicide Charge After Allegedly Beating Baby
An Ambridge mother is facing a charge of attempted homicide after allegedly injuring her three-month-old child. 21-year-old Kayla Hummel is accused of causing life-threatening injuries to her daughter. According to the criminal complaint, a CYS worker contacted police in late September after the baby arrived to Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital with multiple injuries, including a fractured skull and bleeding on her brain. The infant is in serious condition and currently in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Hummel told police her child was injured in a crash with an Ambridge police car. She blamed other injuries on “earlier accidents,” often changing her statements to police. The father of the baby told police Hummel told him the baby was crying when she became frustrated, then shook the baby, then “blacked out.” Hummel is in custody at the Beaver County Jail on $100,000 bond.
One Injured In Overnight Big Beaver Borough Crash
One person was taken to the hospital after a crash in Big Beaver Borough early Sunday morning. The accident happened in the northbound lanes of State Route 18, outside of the Lark Motel. Beaver County State Police confirmed at least one person was transported. No further information was provided.
Road Paving Complete In Aliquippa
Tom Moore, Lindy Paving project manager for Aliquippa’s road project said that if allgoes well, the Kennedy Blvd. and Broadhead Rd. project could be complete by Thanksgiving.Targetted completion date is December 23, he said. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, Moore was at Mac’s Donuts this morning and said all paving is done, and we’re waiting for road signs to be placed at the intersections, signal poles, and wheel chair ramps.”
