Congressman Keith Rothfus Briefs News Media On Recent Meeting In Beaver County

U.S. Congressman Keith Rothfus  was in Beaver County last week with Rep. Eric Nelson and Westmoreland Co. commissioner  Chuck Anderson for a meeting at Cornerstone Ministries for a Drug and Alcohol Symposium  to hear  recovering  addicts personal stories and to discuss different solutions end the epidemic, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. The Congressman said few, if any  have seen the gruesome effects of the opiod epidemic  like our  law enforcement officers.   Police Chiefs from Beaver County and RossTownship briefed him on the  pressing issues facing our local law enforcement. He said, “I’m grateful to the men and women in blue for their selfless work keeping our communities safe.

Changes To New Sewickley Zoning Map Proposed

NEW SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP OFFICIALS ARE PROPOSING ZONING CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE TOWNSHIP. INCLUDED IS A MOVE TO CREATE A LIGHT INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT ALONG FREEDOM-CRIDER ROAD. Aliquippa Woman To Be Honored Tonight By Franklin Center

Aliquippa resident Bernice(Medade)Mason will be honored Friday evening by Franklin Center  at an event entitled:AMONG THE LEGENDS;’AN EVENING WITH THE ICONS  OF BLACK HISTORY”, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. MC for the event is Betty Asche Douglas, artist, musician, and educator from Rochester.   CCBC  executive v.p., and provost Dr. Roger Davis will be introduced, , according to Valerie  Mcelvey. Mrs. mason graduated from Aliquippa high School in 1949, attended and graduated college in Hampton, Va,  where she earned a degree in elementary education. She taught in Hampton and Richmond while there.  Later she taught in Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Coming back to Aliquippa  she taught GED and Badsic Education classes at CCBC for 5 years.  She served as a substitute teacher at ther alma mater, and even taught band. she added. Later, she became a full time prevention specialist with the Beaver County Prevention Project , retiring in 1992. She served on the B.F. Jones memorial Library Board , and founded medade Educational consultants. she commented: in a phone interview: “I used to be very busy in the community.  She suffered a stroke in 2009. Mrs. Mason said. Traditional Southern foods will be served, Mrs. Mcelvey (who will portray Harriet Tubman said and  otherperformances in commemoration of Black History Month will be featured. she said in a press release. High Winds Cause Power Outages Throughout Beaver County

There are still about 15-hundred Duquesne Light customers without power across Beaver County this morning after high winds moved through the region last night. Some of the hardest hit areas are Bridgewater in Beaver County and Bell Acres in Allegheny County. Most of the Duquesne Light outages are in Sewickley (1,157). Spokeswoman Jessica Rock tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that they expect power will be totally restored to the region by 6:00 tonight.

Monaca Names Piuri Police Chief

Monaca’s acting police chief Dave Piuri was promoted to chief at council’s meeting earlier this week, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Piuri was named acting chief  following Bill Petures’s retirement . Petures is now working at the Beaver County Emergency Services Center as deputy director of the EMA. Chief Piuri  and borough manager Mario Leone were unavailable for comment.

Hopewell Area School Board Member Resigns

Hopewell School Board accepted the resignation of board member Daria Minton at Monday night’s meeting, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano.  Ms. Minton moved out of the district.   Ms. Minton was appointed to the board and her term would expire at the end of 2017.Martin Byrnes, high school soccer coach resigned effective yesterday.  Spelling bees  for fourth graders were held at the district’s 3 elementary schools and  the winners will compete in the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee  at Robert Morris University on Saturday, March 11. Hopewell Elementary winner is Jenna Willy, Independence Elementary, Kristen Albertini, Margaret Ross Elementary, Emily Peroni.

New Plants To Be Built In Midland To Supply Concrete For Shell Cracker Plant

TWO PLANTS WILL BE BUILT IN MIDLAND TO SUPPLY THE CONCRETE NEEDED TO BUILD SHELL CHEMICALS’ ETHANE CRACKER PLANT IN POTTER TOWNSHIP. THE FACILITIES WILL BE LOCATED OFF 12TH STREET IN AN INDUSTRIAL PARK NEAR THE OHIO RIVER…AND WILL EMPLOY ABOUT 45 PEOPLE. TRUCKS FROM THE PLANT WILL TRAVEL ALONG ROUTE 68 AND INTERSTATE 376 BEFORE EXITING ON ROUTE 18 TO REACH THE CRACKER PLANT. SHELL OFFICIALS EXPECT ABOUT 300 TRUCK TRIPS DAILY FROM THE PLANT TO THE CRACKER SITE DURING PEAK CONSTRUCTION.
