Beaver County has been awarded a two-hundred-thousand-dollar grant from the state for an early intervention plan to place the county on sound financial footing, according to Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti. Financial administrator Ricardo Luckow said the grant will enable the commissioners to establish fiscal management strategies in dealing with the budget and projected costs.

Woman, 9 Dogs Rescued From Burning Home In Beaver Falls
A woman and her dogs are safe after firefighters rescued them from a burning home in Beaver Falls last night. Crews were called to the house in the 1800-block of Third Avenue after the woman called 911 saying she was trapped on the second floor.Firefighters used a ladder to get her down. Nine dogs were also rescued from the home. One of them reportedly bit a firefighter who was trying to help it. The fireman was treated at the scene and and is said to be doing okay this morning. The rescued woman was treated for smoke inhalation and none of the dogs were hurt. Officials believe the fire may have started in the kitchen.
Lincoln Park Teacher Found Dead After Police Launch Child Pornography Investigation
A Beaver County performing arts teacher who also worked on the Gateway Clipper cruise was found dead in his Crafton home on Monday. Police say 47-year-old Shaun Rolly was under investigation for alleged sexual abuse of children. Police say Rolly was in possession of thousands of images of child pornography. Rolly was a teacher for the last decade at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Midland.
Crafton police started the investigation on Saturday after obtaining two CDs that allegedly belonged to Rolly and were filled with pornographic images of children 10 to 12 years old. Allegheny County police investigators then executed a search warrant at Rolly’s home on Johnston Street and, according to court documents, found 13 more CDs next to his bed. On Monday, police were called back to Rolly’s home and confirmed he had committed suicide. Charges had not been filed at the time of his death.
Beaver County Advanced Placement Biology Students View Heart Transplant
Five AP Biology students of Christina Signorelli went to see how a heart surgery is performed at Allegheny General Hospital recently, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. Allison Kindred, a senior , said Dr. Stephen A. Bailey replaced a man’s heart valve in approximately 4 hours, and the students were permitted see the entire procedure. A question and answer period followed. Dr. Bailey is the division director of cardiac surgery at AGH., and surgical director of cardiac transplantation. Mrs. Signorelli said the students can take the class for a college credit and it will count at the end of the year. Kindred plans to major in finance at PSU University Park. The students will visit the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium on April 24.

Brighton Township Woman Accused Of Leaving Heroin Syringes In Reach Of Baby
A Brighton Township woman is charged after she allegedly overdosed and left drug paraphernalia within reach of her 9-month-old baby. Police said they found two uncapped syringes and a burnt spoon within inches of the baby’s crib. 27-year-old Ashley Smiley is charged with endangering the welfare of children. Police and emergency responders went to the home on Dutch Ridge Road after a report of a heroin overdose. When they arrived, Smiley’s boyfriend was performing CPR on her. Medics administered Narcan, and she regained consciousness. According to a criminal complaint, Smiley’s boyfriend said she had injected heroin in the bedroom, which they share with their child. Police say that drug paraphernalia was in reaching distance of the baby’s crib, and an uncapped syringe was found in a trash basket in the room. Smiley was then transported to Heritage Valley-Beaver emergency room for further treatment and evaluation. She is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on April 10th.
Aliquippa Shooting Victim Identified
New details are being released regarding a deadly shooting in Aliquippa. Officers were called to Wade Street Sunday night for a report of gunshots. According to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano, they found the victim – identified as 45-year-old Renae Johnson – lying in the street near a van, which had the driver side door open. Police say she had been shot in the chest. The police chief said yesterday he believes the woman was homeless. Aliquippa police, along with Beaver County sheriff’s deputies yesterday canvassed the neighborhood by going door-to-door and searching parts of the woods. An autopsy was performed last night and more information is expected today.
What Happened? Forecaster From NWS Explains Why Snow Missed Beaver County
As a major winter storm began to move into the Northeast, many people in Beaver County and in the city of Pittsburgh awoke this morning asking, ” Where’s the snow?” The same powerful nor’easter that’s expected to bring a foot or more of snow to eastern Pennsylvania and points along the mid-Atlantic delivered nothing to our area. This morning, Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak spoke with Lee Hendricks of the National Weather Service and asked him why so many forecasters got it wrong this time. Hendricks called it a “complicated situation” that caused the snow to miss us. But he warned our listeners: Don’t expect Beaver County to dodge the snow for much longer. He expects to see more widespread snowfall this afternoon.

The Ellwood City School Board is against eliminating property taxes in Pennsylvania. State lawmakers are considering a proposal to eliminate property taxes and make up the lost revenue through higher income and sales taxes. The school board has approved a resolution to oppose the bill.
