The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will host a public meeting tonight to discuss the safety performance of the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station. On hand will be N-R-C officials, who are responsible for inspections of the plant as well as general safety oversight. Officials also will discuss planned inspections this year for Beaver Valley. The open house is set for 5 to 6:30 tonight at the Shippingport community building. Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano will be there and will have a detailed report tomorrow morning on AM Beaver County.

Penney’s To Stay Open At Beaver Valley Mall
The J.C. Penney store at the Beaver Valley Mall is not among the 138 Penney stores that are slated to close this summer, according to Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti. The company plans to shutter stores nationwide, primarily in the South and Midwest. But the list of the department store chain – which was released on Friday – does not include any Western Pennsylvania locations.
Hopewell High School’s Seaperch Teams Headed To State Competition
Hopewell High School has 3 teams of Seaperch competition winners heading to State competition on April 8, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. The 3 teams, comprised of 2 students each will compete on April 8 at California University of Pa. Irrelevent Memes. JJ Yost and Tyler Nordie, Finesse Challenge had the best obstacle course. Swag Daddy ‘n’ Crew, Zach Showalter and Dakota Forest, best obstacle course, Turner Wilson and Noah Schultz, Engineering Notebook, , won the competition for best team. The Unites States Navy came to the district and introduced he underwater robotics program to the district last year. Bronwyn Zorchnak, chemistry teacher and gifted coordinator is in charge of the program. The junior high school pool is used for the practice and events, she said. If the students are winners at Cal U., they will compete for the national competition at Georgia Tech in May.Local U.s. Navy personnel assisted at the local event last week, Ms. Korchnak said.

Central Valley School Board Announces Day Off For Students Due To No Snow
Central Valley School District students have the day off today,because there hasn’t been any snow., it was announced at last night’s monthly board meeting, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. The board approved the hiring of Trent Shanahan as assistant baseball coach. He will be paid $900 for the season. Business manager John Maly received a new 2 year contract. His salary is $29,458. Twenty members of FBLA will attend the state competition in Hershey, April 2-5.PA
Aliquippa School Board Approves Hiring Of Two Volunteer Coaches
Aliquippa School Board approved the hiring of retired girls basketball coach Donna Richey as a volunteer coach, according to Beaver County Radio News Correspondent Sandy Giordano. She is to serve for the 2017 season. The board approved Maurice Carey as a volunteer football coach. he will serve for the 2017-2018 season. The BVIU 2027-18 budget of $1,677,962 was approved by the board. A fundraiser movie night for the Quipettes and the #B24 Strong Youth Center was approved by the board. They will use the junior-senior high school March 31-May 26. there will be no movie night April 14 or May 5. Anita Gordon and her committee are providing security for the events . #B24 Strong will pay $135 for custodial/maintenance fees. The Quip football team will attend camp at Cal U August 13-17. Cost to the district is not to exceed $2,000.00
