A special investigative panel meets today in Harrisburg, tasked with determining whether Attorney General Kathleen Kane should be removed from office. Kane has had her law license temporarily suspended as she faces perjury and other allegations.
Investigators are looking into what caused a fire at an Ellwood City metal recycling plant. Firefighters from a wide area had been battling that blaze at the Inmetco plant since 9:30 a.m. yesterday. 12 fire departments responded to the fire. The Lawrence County 911 Center reported no injuries and no evacuations had been ordered. The fire was still smoldering as of noontime today.
The man who died Saturday night in a house fire in New Sewickley Township has been identified. The coroner identified the victim as 55-year-old Jack Rushman. Autopsy results are not yet available. The call for the fire came in around 6 p.m. Officials say the fire was fully involved by the time firefighters arrived on the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Beaver Falls Historical Society is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this weekend. The organization is inviting the public to an open house Saturday at the Beaver Falls Historical Society museum, where you can experience living history. The museum houses a collection of photographs, clothing, china and glassware. Betty Anderson – the director of the museum – tells Beaver County Radio she will be giving free tours of the museum tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lower level of the Carnegie Free Library of Beaver Falls. Some traffic restrictions for those going to Brady’s Run Park in the coming week… Visitors will have to avoid some parts of the park due to the annual controlled goose hunt. According to a Beaver County press release, for safety reasons, the area from the lodge to shelter 15 will be closed to park visitors on Monday morning and the morning of November 13th until 11 a.m. Again, this is because of the hunters in the area that will be shooting geese at the lake. The county sheriff’s department will monitor traffic through the park during the hunting dates.
Emergency dispatchers say a woman who went missing in McConnells Mill State Park in Lawrence County last night has been found safe. Dispatchers made contact with the woman around 9 p.m. and found her just before 11 p.m. near the Slippery Rock Gorge Trail. The woman, who was identified as 23-year-old Lindsay Dickie of Valencia called for help around 7 p.m. after she sprained her ankle while hiking alone in the park. She said she became disoriented in the park after nightfall. Paramedics at the scene evaluated her sprained ankle and checked her for possible hypothermia.
A child is recovering from injuries sustained after being hit by a car in Beaver yesterday afternoon. According to officials at the Beaver County 911 Center, the child was hit at Fifth and Market Streets in Beaver. Dispatchers say the child was taken to a local hospital. There’s still no word on the child’s age, name or condition at this time.
Attorney General Kathleen Kane continues to release raunchy emails in the expectation that if she’s headed out of office, others will also go down with her. Kane has threatened to release more emails with the Capitol building rife with speculation on whose emails will be released next.
The children of a Pittsburgh-area woman killed by an escaped inmate have filed a wrongful death lawsuit. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the suit claims Armstrong County and the Jail’s outgoing warden laid the groundwork for Tammy Long’s death. County prison officials have not commented.
