Police say a teenager will be charged as a juvenile in connection with an attack  Wednesday on a 15-year-old boy with a baseball bat in Aliquippa. The incident happened near a park in the area of Griffith Street in Aliquippa around 2:30 p.m. Witnesses tell police they saw two teens arguing before one of the teens pulled out a baseball bat and hit the other on the head. A helicopter airlifted the victim to UPMC Presbyterian. Aliquippa Police Detective Steven Roberts tells Beaver County Radio that the victim is in intensive care with brain damage.

An Oakland Raiders linebacker is being investigated to determine whether he illegally taunted a police dog before a game in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. WTAE-TV reports a sheriff’s deputy working with the dog  last Sunday identified the player as Ray-Ray Armstrong.

Today is Veterans Day…and the Beaver County courthouse and other county offices – including district judge offices – are closed today in observance of the holiday. Federal and state government offices, post offices and banks also are closed. Most state wine and liquor stores are open for regular hours…but customers are advised to call ahead to check. Many municipal offices are also closed.

A crowd estimated to be at least 2,000 people attended the Beaver County Veterans Day Parade, which wrapped up just before noon today in New Brighton. A total of 13 marching bands marched in the parade. Bill Edwards, who chairs the committee of the New Brighton American Legion, was the grand marshal of the parade. Edwards tells Beaver County Radio the parade dates all the way back to the 1920’s. Mike Romigh and Frank Sparks hosted the broadcast of the parade today on 1230 WBVP and 1460 WMBA.

Wednesday is Veterans Day..and a New Brighton resident is doing something – with the help of friends, neighbors and local businesses – to say “thank you” to our veterans. Donna Fath is hosting a free hot breakfast to all Beaver County veterans on Veterans Day…from 7 a.m. to 12 Noon at the Conway V-F-D Hall at the corner of Foote Street and Gross Street in Conway. All they have to do is show up – no questions asked!

We’re finding out more about an emerging deal to end the state budget stalemate. Officials on both sides are urging a cautious approach, with a sales tax hike, expanded property tax cuts and other proposals yet to be settled.

Emergency dispatchers have confirmed that a child who went missing in New Sewickley Township last night has been found. Dispatchers say the search for the child began around 9:30 p.m. off of Route 68 in New Sewickley Township. The child was located a short time later just after 10 p.m. No additional details were released.

A Beaver County woman accused of leading officers on a chase in a stolen police cruiser while handcuffed earlier this year appeared in court today.  Investigators say 27-year-old Roxanne Rimer led officers on a chase through Center Township and Monaca after crawling through the glass partition of an officer’s cruiser. Police say Rimer was detained on shoplifting suspicions prior to the chase and somehow managed to drive the cruiser with her hands behind her back. According to police, Rimer drove down Route 51 at 100 mph for nearly 10 miles with her hands behind her back. Rimer was supposed to go to trial today, but instead agreed to a plea deal. She will serve four to eight years for aggravated assault and  fleeing and eluding.

We’re smack in the middle of deer mating season…and Pennsylvania Game Commission officers are reminding drivers they need to be vigilant and use extra caution while on the roads. Wildlife Conservation Officer Mike Yecht’s beat includes the northern half of Beaver County, including New Sewickley Township, Beaver Falls, New Brighton, Brighton Township, mainly the Ohio River north all the way to the Lawrence County line. He tells Beaver County Radio that sometimes it’s better to hit the deer than to swerve and hit a tree, endangering lives.
