Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane says she will not seek the Democratic nomination to run for a second term in office. Kane told reporters at a press conference today that she has had successes in offices. She cited her obligations to her two sons in saying she will not seek the Democratic nomination to run again for attorney general…and says while she loves Pennsylvania, she loves her sons first. Kane faces criminal charges, and the state Supreme Court has suspended her license to practice law.

8 People In Western Pennsylvania Being Tested For Zika, Bringing Total to 12
More people are being tested for the Zika virus in Western Pennsylvania, according to the Allegheny County Health Department. Eight people are now being tested for the virus, bringing the total amount of pending tests to 12. It is unclear if any of those eight candidates had traveled out of the country, or if anyone being tested was pregnant. There is no word on when the results for any of the eight new tests will be revealed.
Weather Puts WPIAL Playoffs On Hold
The winter storm will delay to beginning of the quarter finals of the WPIAL playoffs. Tuesday night games have been postponed. The games will be moved to Wednesday forcing Wednesday nights games to Thursday. That means the Beaver Falls vs Thomas Jefferson game will be played Wednesday night at West Allegheny High School with WBVP”s airtime at 7:30. The West Allegheny vs Ambridge game will be Wednesday at North Allegheny. WMBA air time is 7:30

Beaver County Commissioners To Adopt Final 2016 Amended Budget Tuesday Morning
The Beaver County Board of Commissioners will conduct a special public meeting Tuesday morning to adopt the final 2016 amended budget. This meeting will begin at 10 a-m and will take place in the commissioners conference room at the county courthouse in Beaver. Beaver County Radio’s Greg Benedetti will be there and will give us an on-air report during the 11:00 hour and also during Noonday.
House Committee Studies Christiana Bill To License PA Plumbers
A bill that would require plumbers in Pennsylvania to be licensed for their trade is one step closer to becoming law. The House Professional Licensure Committee last week heard testimony from Pennsylvania plumbers on the importance of a state licensing program for the trade. State Representative Jim Christiana of Beaver County is the author of House Bill 1357, which would ensure plumbers licensed through the program have the knowledge and training needed to protect public health and the environment. Christiana tells Beaver County Radio newsman Pat Septak that his bill has bi-partisan support.
Beaver Man Convicted Of Girlfriend’s 2015 Stabbing Death
A man has been convicted of third-degree murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend in her Beaver County home. The Beaver County Times reports that jurors convicted 59-year-old James Turner on Friday evening following a five-day trial in Beaver County Court. Prosecutors said 53-year-old Patricia Thompson was found dead in her Aliquippa home in August 2014.

Governor Tom Wolf has ordered U.S. and Commonwealth flags at the Capitol Complex and at all state facilities to fly at half-staff to honor the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Scalia, who served three decades on the nation’s highest court, died Saturday at a resort ranch in West Texas.

Union Leaders Discuss County Budget Crisis on Teleforum With Mike Romigh
Union leaders appeared with Mike Romigh on Teleforum this morning to talk about the county budget crisis and the alleged 17-million-dollar deficit. Joe Mann, president of the employees union in Beaver County, and Al Smith, business manager for the SEIU (Service Employees International Union), say that in order to fight for a new contract for county employees, they want to see the real numbers and then get the truth out to the public. County employees currently contribute two percent of their salaries to their health insurance but the county commissioners are pushing for workers to contribute more.
